College Radio Apologizes For Their Actions On “I’m Sorry”

Seattle’s College Radio is back again with their latest single, “I’m Sorry”. The track is an ultra-catchy mid-tempo pop punk banger perfect for fans of modern alternative music. About the single, the band says “ I’m Sorry is about me trying to explain, justify, and apologize for simply existing. It’s about being incredibly uncomfortable in your own skin, and wanting to disappear. Fun, right?”

The single is the final single from their album Nothing Ever Changes It Only Gets Worse, which is out now. It follows the singles “11:59” and “Better Days”Along with the single, College Radio has released a video for “I’m Sorry”. The video, directed by Brian Roosen, sees the band taking a lesson in cleaning up and fitting in. “I’m Sorry” is now available across all major streaming platforms. Listen to it on Spotify now or watch the video on YouTube below.

Seattle’s premier pop-punk act College Radio blends classic 90’s punk with modern pop and indie sensibilities to create something simultaneously familiar, but also fresh and original. They’ve graced stages up and down the west coast with their wild stage shows and soaring harmonies, and with the release of their Album Nothing Ever Changes It Only Gets Worse, 2022 is looking to be their biggest year yet.

  • Your latest single “I’m Sorry”  just dropped. Congrats! How’s it feel to have new music out?

Evan- It feels excellent! I love being busy, I love being productive, and I love when someone asks how the band is going, that I have something real and recent and concrete to point to and say “this is how it’s going. Good, right?!”

Melvin- Thanks! It’s always great to be able to share new work, but songs like this feel like a holiday!

Gordon- so stoked and happy we finally put out a full length!!!

  • Can you walk us a little bit through the writing process? How was it different from past releases or other projects you may have worked on?

Evan- The writing process for this one was a little different than other singles. I wrote it before I even joined College Radio, actually. I’ve been kicking it around and honing it for years, until Gordon heard the demo and got very excited about it.

Then we got to work making it a College Radio song (and cut it down from almost 7 minutes lol)

Gordon- we write together more with this project. Once one of us has an idea we put our brains together and create something special. Most of this record was written by myself and Evan with some help from our engineers Cade and Josh.

  • Were there any speed bumps or mishaps during the recording process?

Melvin- I unfortunately wasn’t able to make it to the recording session, but Evan and Gordon absolutely killed it in my absence!

Evan- Melvin couldn’t make it that day, so I had to play the guitar solo. Please don’t blame Gordon, Melvin, Josh (our incredible engineer) or anyone else for that solo. I take full responsibility.

Gordon- Pandemic ahahahah

  • Who are some of the influences you drew from while putting the album together? Are there any specific songs you can talk about specifically where these influences came into play?

Evan- NOFX is probably my biggest influence on this album. I’ve always looked up to their mix of seriousness, irreverence, super personal confessional lyrics, playing too fast and acting like goofballs.

Survival Guide leans hard on Motion City Soundtrack, just bouncy, driving, wordy pop music.

Melvin- I feel like our influences have been able to blend and come through during the entire writing process. Green Day and Real Friends were some of my bigger inspirations in my writing.

Gordon- You can hear a Green Day vibe in “Better Daze” Alkaline Trio/ Blink Vibes in “86d” and “Full of It” and No use for a name and comeback kid for “Fever”

  • How many “Sorry’s” have you had since the writing/releasing of the video and song?

Evan- It’s been a steady stream, but here’s a few new ones, since it came out:

Rob, the guy I wrote Survival Guide about - sorry your wife left you. You’re still a jerk, though.

The Kraken bar, in Seattle - sorry I was dancing on the bar during the most recent College Radio show. My shoes were not clean, it was not hygienic.

Dane Stafford, another engineer we worked with on the album - sorry we misspelled your name in the album credits.

Dan. Lol.

Melvin- Oh several! (…sorry.)

  • How was it working with Brian Roosen on the video?

Melvin- Brian’s always been such a pleasure to work with. From our very first project together to our work for I’m sorry, his expertise has grown and shown along with how comfortable we all got to working together. It’s always a good product with Brian!

Evan- Always a blast, he’s super professional and creative, and he’s an amazing collaborator. He always makes sure we realize everyone’s vision, and we always have fun doing it. I can’t say enough good things about Brian, seriously.

Gordon- Brian is amazing!! Long time friend and fellow Musician. He’s been our visual guy for some time now and can’t wait to show ya what’s next!!!

  • Any live shows the readers and fans can catch you at?

Melvin- We’ve got 3 shows left this year and then we’re cooking up some plans for 2023 that you don’t want to miss. Stay tuned!

Evan- 12/9 Tony Vs, 12/17 Airport, 12/30 Plaid Pig babyyyyyyy

Gordon- What they said!!

  • What’s your favorite local venue to play?

Melvin- One stage that has a special place in my heart is the Central Saloon. You can feel the history of who’s been there before (I mean it's lined across the walls!). It’s humbling to say we did the same.

Evan- This is an EXTREMELY hard question… but I’m going to say the Spanish Ballroom… or the Central Saloon… or the Victory Lounge.

Gordon- Favorite Venue… Showbox Market

It’s so beautiful and iconic for its history

  • How about your favorite out of town venue?

Melvin- Hands down has to be the starlighter in San Antonio or demented designs in Anderson, CA! I’m a sucker for supporting family businesses, and you can see by all the buzzing interaction around the day, that the family is in it and cares for those who come in. That always makes for a great night.

Evan- Uhhhhhhhhh either The Starlighter in San Antonio, it’s amazing and we LOVE Jacob who runs it

OR

Bottoms Up, because it was on Bar Rescue like 5 years before we played there.

Gordon- for me it’s Palladium Massachusetts. CR hasn’t played their but my past bands have and boy it’s amazing
