A Cloud of Ravens Release 'Requiem For The Sun'
Brooklyn-based duo A Cloud of Ravens have announced the release date of their Lost Hymns LP. Due out on April 28th, 2023, via Nexilis Records/Schubert Music Europe, the LP will consist of eleven songs. Among the tracks are the previously released singles “Requiem for the Sun,” “Nature of Artifice,” and “The Blackest Mantra.” The songs on Lost Hymns deal with societal issues that A Cloud of Ravens feels are important.
“Though it has nothing to do with actual organized religion, ‘Requiem for the Sun’ takes me back to hymns I sang in church choir as a child, and informed the album’s title. To paraphrase a sentiment that dates back to the early 20th century; in a world of deceit and disinformation, both personal or worldly, sunlight, truth, is the best disinfectant. If this song has a message, it’s that.””
A Cloud of Ravens does not believe in hiding from such issues. They choose to confront them head-on. That attitude is reflected in their music.
“The song ‘Nature of Artifice’ is about choosing to bury your head in the sand, rather than confronting glaring societal ills and moral injustices. It’s easier to get lost in the minutia of our click-and-swipe modern world than watch its blessings crumble around us. To some extent, none of us are blameless.”
Work on Lost Hymns started in the spring of 2021. Lost Hymns was mastered by Jason Corbett (ACTORS) at Jacknife Sound studio in Vancouver, Canada. Lost Hymns is the follow-up to the LP Another Kind of Midnight which was released in 2021. A subsequent remix album featured remixed tracks by John Fryer, Clan of Xymox, ACTORS, Chris Vrenna, and Ritual Howls.
A Cloud of Ravens was formed in Brooklyn in 2018. The duo consists of guitarist and vocalist Matthew McIntosh and bassist Beth Narducci. Together they attracted positive attention from critics and fans of dark-themed music. Post-punk, darkwave, industrial, and alternative rock influences are heavy in A Cloud of Ravens. Fans of A Cloud of Ravens and other goth rock will want to see the duo’s upcoming tour with Clan of Xymox and Curse Mackey.
