Aluna Announces Music Festival, ‘Noir Fever’

British electronic music singer/songwriter Aluna has announced her own music festival that highlights the contributions of Black and LGTBQ+ artists to dance music. The festival known as Noir Fever will take place May 27-30, 2022, in New Orleans, a city rich in Black music history.

This unique experience of honoring dance music’s heritage and getting a taste of what’s to come will reignite a much-needed connection back to what dance music is about – creating a place where people from all different communities can come together and dance their hearts out while feeling free to be themselves,” said Aluna

Joining Aluna on the line-up will be a diverse selection of internationally recognized Black artists from the electronic, pop, and hip-hop scenes. The line-up includes the Haitian Canadian artist KAYTRANADA, Compton-based singer and producer Channel Tres, Canadian house artist Jayda G, the London-based electronic artist TSHA, Chicago house legend Derrick Carter, and Detroit techno producer Kevin Saunderson.

Joining this already impressive list of artists will be South Los Angeles rapper Duckwrth, Harlem electronic musical artist Austin Millz, Chicago hip-hop and dance producer NEZ, Newark-based performer and “Jersey club queen” UNIIQU3, Los Angeles singer Kaleena Zanders, NY/NJ singer, songwriter, DJ, and model MAAD, Toronto DJ and producer Bambii, and New York-based and Jamaican born artist Tygapaw.

Partnering with Aluna to promote Noir Fever is the technology company Pollen Presents. In addition, to live performances and all-night raves, Noir Fever will also include a series of talks featuring keynote speakers, workshops, and a marketplace featuring vendors from Black-owned businesses.

Aluna first achieved fame as one-half of the electronic music duo AlunaGeorge with producer George Reid. In 2020 Aluna decided to put that project on hold to concentrate on music more reflective of her culture and background. Since then, Aluna has received a positive response to her debut album Renaissance on Diplo’s Mad Decent. Fans have warmly received recent collaborations with Austin Millz and Tekno. In addition, Aluna became the host of a SiriusXM show also called Noir Fever

The announcement of the Noir Fever festival comes after Aluna caused a stir in the media when she wrote an open letter to the dance music industry criticizing the lack of Black representation. The letter pointed out that no Black woman has ever been nominated for a GRAMMY in the best dance/electronic category.

“When I started looking at all the challenges I face being a Black woman making dance music, I realized I wanted to do more than just create a space for myself - I want all Black people to know that the genre of Dance is their heritage and they should feel included and encouraged to create under that banner by expanding the genre to be culturally and racially inclusive, Aluna wrote.
