Angelspit Release "The Greatest Trick"

Cyberpunk/industrial band Angelspit  has just released the new single "The Greatest Trick" which the band itself describes as a “high-speed burning collision between electro-punk rock and cyber mayhem.” Those are some powerful words, but the track does indeed pack a punch. According to Angelspit vocalist and founding member Zoog Von Rock, the production of “The Greatest Trick” was specifically crafted to emphasize a new and dangerous sound for the band.

The track is built around the sample of a cooking pot rocking on a wall hook - yup, a rocking saucepan. Its pitch was lowered and distorted – giving a dirty, grainy sound. The sample’s pitch and rhythm became the backbone of the track.
— said Zoog Von Rock

Angelspit utilized a unique instrument called the blaster beam which is an electric guitar hybrid that is six feet long and has eleven strings. In the studio, Angelspit put the blaster beam to an industrial beat down to get the sound they wanted.

The blaster beam was literally bashed to create total mayhem. George Bikos at Baysound Studios ran the Blaster Beam through his huge collection of guitar amps to make it sound massive.
— said Von Rock

In addition to the blaster beam “The Greatest Trick” features samples and distortion to give the track a chaotic sound and an intense beat. The lyrics of “The Greatest Trick” delve into the issues of modernization and technological progress in people’s lives. Even a band such as Angelspit whom regularly works with modern tech to create their music and understand the potential negative consequences rapid modernization has on the world.

“God” and “The Devil” mentioned in the lyrics is referring to technology and the absolute power it has over us. It is addictive and self-destructive,” explained Von Rock.

There is an accompanying music video for “The Greatest Trick.” Its production is credited to Zoog Von Rock. The video shows the band in the studio as well as various old film clips including creepy classics like Magic and Haxan: Witchcraft Through the Ages. The effect is chaos and danger which mirrors the music rather appropriately.

Founded in Australia 25 years ago, Angelspit has since relocated to Chicago where they became a vital component of the local goth/industrial scene. Since forming, Angelspit has released over 25 albums in addition to producing 80 remixes for various other bands. Many bands have looked to Angelspit for inspiration and as collaborators. To further promote creativity in the scene Angelspit hosts a free weekly gathering in which musicians are encouraged to make their art with full creative support. “The Greatest Trick” represents yet another stage in Angelspit’s evolution as a powerful creative force in industrial music.
