Babymetal to “Disappear” This October

The Fox God has spoken, but what does it all mean?

When they first burst out into the metal scene, Babymetal received a great deal of suspicion and criticism. The all-girl metal band was dismissed as a bunch of prefabricated poseurs who wouldn’t last. A decade later Babymetal has achieved worldwide fame. Babymetal not only has three studio albums, but four live albums, one compilation, nine live video albums, one EP, thirteen singles, and eighteen music videos. They have topped charts and won countless awards. Babymetal’s success spawned its own scene called kawaii metal which saw bands follow their influence and combine hard-hitting metal music with cute themes and lyrics. Babymetal even got endorsed by respected figures such as Rob Halford and John Carpenter. So how else would Babymetal celebrate their tenth anniversary but to…. retire?

As odd as that seems, fans are left speculating just that after reading some cryptic messages on the Babymetal website. The band unveiled a legend map that lays out their future. As an introduction to the map, the following statement from the band’s Fox God implies that Babymetal’s end is nearby climbing the “Stairway to Living Legend.”

The statement is as follows:

“REVELATION FROM THE FOX GOD

Sunday, October 10th, 2021…

Together with all 10 episodes of METAL RESISTANCE coming to a close,

the 10-year legend will be sealed from the world.

Until that seal is broken, BABYMETAL will disappear from our sight.

Time is running out.

There is no eternity in God’s descent.”

This is shocking news to the group’s diehard fans. Especially since it comes after a great deal of positive information from the group regarding their ten-year anniversary. They had a very successful anniversary tour. A greatest hits album had previously been released titled, 10 Babymetal Years. Also announced were 10 Babymetal Budokan on DVD and CD and Babymetal Legends Live Vinyl Series -The One Special Tour Boxset. A 200-page book featuring interviews with the core band members, Su-metal and Moametal, and their producer, Kobametal detailing the history of Babymetal is still set to be published.

Babymetal is known for its own personal mythology. The complex lore behind the band has been disseminated through social media, comic books, and in interviews in which the band with a straight face reveals that the Fox God is a deity who has appointed Babymetal to become music idols. All Babymetal announcements are made through the guise of revelations from the Fox God.

The line, “until the seal is broken,” does indicate that this departure from the public may not be permanent. How long this break maybe is still a question. If only the Fox God didn’t speak in such riddles. Until the mystery is solved, we mortals will have to make do with the legacy that Babymetal has left us.
