Baroness, the hard rock band whose combo of progressive, sludge, and alternative metal has impressed critics and fans since forming 20 years ago, has announced a series of acoustic record store performances. They will kick off the seven-date tour with an appearance at Rough Trade in New York City. The choice of record stores as the live venues for this series of shows harkens back to the band’s roots.

Independent music stores are a huge part of our musical background,” said vocalist and guitarist John Baizley. “We discovered so much music in them as teenagers; they undoubtedly had a profound effect on all of our development as young artists (they still do). We are thrilled to be able to travel around the East Coast this September to play stripped-down sets in some of our favorite shops.

The record stores appearances will be an ideal time for fans of Baroness to not only experience the band as a live act in a unique setting but to meet the members up close and personal.

We’re really excited for the opportunity to play these intimate performances and to connect with the fans as well as the record shop owners and operators who have been so incredibly supportive of us over the years.
— said guitarist Gina Gleason

The show at Rough Trade on September 15th will double as a record release party as the new Baroness album STONE will drop that same day. The album will be released via Abraxan Hymns and will consist of 10 original tracks. Pre-orders and pre-saves for STONE are available now on the band's official website. STONE will be available in vinyl, CD, and a limited-edition light blue cassette. The cover artwork for STONE was created by Baizley.

Album Cover Artist: John Baizley

The band’s creativity doesn’t only extend to the music and artwork on the album. In addition, the music videos off STONE were directed by Baroness themselves. The just released single, “Shine” is accompanied by a music video that makes use of mystical imagery and invokes an ethereal and dream-like atmosphere. The band’s signature mix of melody and heavy guitars compliments the powerful and spiritual themes conveyed by the visuals. “Shine” is the third single off STONE. The previous two singles off STONE , “Last Word” and “Beneath the Rose”

likewise featured surreal and sometimes frightening imagery. The more than six-minute lengths of the songs combined with the hallucinatory imagery creates a sense of watching experimental short films rather than just music videos.

(STONE) feels like our most cinematic endeavor thus far!
— said Gleason

Baroness has also announced the Sweet Oblivion Tour. The band has invited a diverse list of groups to open for them. Fans will be able to enjoy watching bands such as Agriculture, Chat Pile, Cloud Rat, Destiny Bond, Escuela Grind, Hoaxed, Imperial Triumphant, Jesus Piece, KEN Mode, Midwife, Portrayal of Guilt, Primitive Man, Sheer Mag, Soul Glo, Spotlights, Uniform, Vile Creature, Wayfarer and Zorn in the opening slot on the shows. Fans will be able to find out who opens the show in which cities by visiting the Baroness website for ticket info.
