Bear McCreary Bringing His Landmark Rock Concept Album/Graphic Novel The Singularity To New York Comic Con
Renowned composer Bear McCreary will appear at New York Comic Con to discuss The Singularity, his latest project which is a rock concept album and a graphic novel from Image Comics. McCreary will appear on the panel “Bear McCreary: Musical World-Building” on Friday, October 18, from 2:30–3:30 p.m. on the Main Stage of the Javits Center.
McCreary is an Emmy-nominated and BAFTA and Grammy-winning artist. Comic-Con attendees would know Bear McCreary for work for popular genre franchises in film, television, and video games such as The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, The Walking Dead, God of War, Outlander, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Battlestar Galactica, and Percy Jackson and the Olympians. He has contributed original concert commissions for the Calder Quartet and Getty Center, the Hagen Philharmonic and Ballet in Germany, the Television Academy, the Seattle Symphony, and the Golden State Pops Orchestra. The L.A. Philharmonic and L.A. Master Chorale at the Hollywood Bowl performed McCreary’s music.
The official description of The Singularity hints at an enigmatic story on an epic scale about immortality and cosmic retribution:
“HOW MUCH LOSS CAN ONE SOUL ENDURE?
Blue Eyes can’t stop being reborn. He tumbles from life to life, from one unthinkably strange universe to the next—the only constant being that, one way or another, everything he learns to love is lost. But when Blue Eyes finally catches up to a mysterious figure he’s seen recurring throughout his lives, he realizes he might just have a chance to escape his cursed immortality—or, at the very least, exact revenge for it.”
On the album The Singularity, McCreary collaborated with an amazing line-up of accomplished musical artists including Slash, Serj Tankian (System of a Down), Corey Taylor (Slipknot), Rufus Wainwright, Joe Satriani, Kim Thayil (Soundgarden), Buck Dharma (Blue Öyster Cult), Steve Bartek (Oingo Boingo), Scott Ian (Anthrax), Mega Ran, Raya Yarbrough (Outlander). The Singularity also includes spoken-word contributions by actors Lee Pace (Foundation, The Hobbit trilogy), Danai Gurira (Black Panther, The Walking Dead), and Ryan Hurst (Sons of Anarchy).
At New York Comic Con McCreary will discuss music's importance in developing fictional worlds. Joining McCreary on the panel will be his collaborators Rufus Wainwright, comics writer Mat Groom (Inferno Girl Red, Self/Made), comics writer & filmmaker Kyle Higgins (Radiant Black, No/One), and cartoonist Ramón K. Pérez (Jim Henson’s Tale of Sand, Jane). After the panel, they will sign copies of The Singularity and other select items at the Mondo booth (#1000, from 4:00–5:00 p.m.).
