Between the Buried and Me Bring The Colors Experience to NYC (Night One)
Embarking on a tour encapsulating both Colors and Colors II, Between the Buried and Me played to a raucous sold out crowd at Manhattan’s famed Webster Hall playing an album a night. Supporting them on this endeavor were metalcore heavyweights The Acacia Strain, also playing their latest release Step Into The Light on night one followed by its companion piece Failure Will Follow on the second night.
Opening the show with a set comprised of the Step Into The Light songs, The Acacia Strain wasted no time in getting the crowd moving. Ripping through intense track after intense track, the heft of the songs could be felt around the venue. Frontman Vincent Bennett barely stood still for a moment to catch his breath, always moving and keeping the crowd engaged. After the album was concluded, they played a few older songs from their back catalog, including some fan favorites that havent been played live in many years such as Passing the Pencil Test and 3750, both from the 2004 album 3750. Closing out with Carbomb, the floor erupted in a frenzy of spin kicks and windmills, the likes of which few other bands can command. The Acacia Strain never lets down and is always a band that must be experienced whenever they are around.

Next up, were progressive metal giants Between the Buried and Me, playing their 2007 album Colors from front to back. The whole floor was literally shaking from the crowd’s movement and excitement to see these songs. Playing such complicated songs and making it look easy, BtBaM delighted the crowd with such highlights as Sun of Nothing and White Walls. Closing out with Voice of Trespass from Automata II, the crowd was sent home hungry for more, and anticipating the next night when they would get to see Colors II played. I didn’t get to attend the second night, but if night one was any indication, the crowd was in for a hell of a performance.
