BLACK ELEPHANT Premieres The Fall Of The Gods Title Track + New LP
Italian acid rockers Black Elephant have released a new single called, “The Fall of the Gods.” The single is being streamed on the Decibel magazine website ahead of the official release later this month of the band’s album of the same name.
The hypnotic song has gotten the metalheads in Decibel under its spell as they have praised Black Elephant for its spaced-out track, saying:
“This slow-building groover is a laconic, meditative trip into the cosmos aboard a pulsing rhythm section and echoing, fuzzed-out psychedelic guitars. It’s also the lead-off and title track to the band’s third full-length album.”
The cosmic awareness of Black Elephant isn’t limited to the sonic qualities of their music. The band also delves in heady subject matter in their lyrics. The song has a grand theme concerning true love that transcends time and space.
“The Fall of the Gods represents the slow fall of the world, which is crumbling as the love of two lovers who are attending the end of everything, standing still, they indulge in a last gaze before the oblivion,” says frontman Alessio Caravelli.
Ever since 2018’s Cosmic Blues Black Elephant have received praise from rock critics and metal journalists at Decibel magazine and websites such as Metal Sucks, Ave Noctum, and Grizzly Butts. The sound of Black Elephant takes heavy inspiration from classic fuzztone rock of Jimi Hendrix and 70s era rock hard rock bands. Black Elephant also cites the stoner metal of Fu Manchu and Dozer and the grunge rock of Soundgarden as influences. On top of these heavy icons, Black Elephant adds a layer of blues and shoegaze into the mix.
Storytelling and world building has always been a big part of Black Elephant when it comes to writing albums. For example, Seven Swords was inspired by the band’s fascination with the Japanese samurai. In The Fall of the Gods, Black Elephant tackles the life cycle of great civilizations. As Caravelli explains:
“The theme this time around is the fall, from the decay to the reborn… After the last very tough years for all societies, we understood that many principles and colossuses have fallen, exactly like the gods and ancient cultures such as the Maya and Aztec civilizations did. This has been also the inspiration for our graphic designer Farfante, who hand drew the cover and art for the new album with these concepts in mind.”
The Fall of the Gods will drop on October 18th via Small Stone Recordings. The album will be available in CD and digital formats. A special limited-edition vinyl of 250 units pressed in the
United States by Small Stone and 250 units pressed in Germany via Kozmik Artifactz will also be released.
