Dashboard Confessional Brings Multi-Generational Alternative Fans Together at the Arizona Financial Theatre

Since the early 2000’s Dashboard Confessional has been a big part of emo playlists. 20 years ago Florida native, Chris Carrabba, released what I would call THE summer album, A Mark, A Mission, A Brand, A Scar and would in turn launch the band into the alternative legend status. Starting off the fall right, Dashboard toured all around the US bringing along Taylor Acorn and buddy legends themselves, BOYS LIKE GIRLS.

First on the stage was up and comer, Taylor Acorn. Debuting as a country artist it was not long after that her pop rock roots called to her. In the midst of the pandemic, Taylor posted a cover of Mayday Parade’s Jamie All Over which caught the attention of not only the band themselves but the fans within the scene. Taylor was up front when she came out and addressed the crowd saying that her voice was failing her that night. She soldiered on through her first three songs Final Nail, I Think I’m In Love and Sticking Around before having to cut her set short. Taylor’s vocals were still POWERFUL that night but still glad to see her take a much needed rest on her voice.

BOYS LIKE GIRLS have a new iconic opening showing them in an opening with the iconic Love Drunk which the crowd erupted in cheers and screaming along to the lyrics. After a very long hiatus, the pop-punk kings came back to claim their throne with a new album, SUNDAY AT FOXWOODS, and a near continuous touring cycle. Coming off of the weekend in Vegas performing at When We Were Young Fest, the guys were still riding that high. Closing off their set with the ever quintessential The Great Escape, lead singer Martin Johnson guided us back to 2006 and encouraged everyone to put down their phones and live in the moment.

Main act Dashboard Confessionals took the stage and Carrabba started out by pulling on heartstrings with the opening song, also coming off of the weekend playing at When We Were Young the energy was still electric. This tour really goes to show that feeling your feels with songs of your youth is healing in a way that is just a ticket away.

My love for concert photography came from my scrolling on tumblr in my high school years, growing more after attending Warped Tour in 2012. Earning my associates degree in the arts from Cochise College in 2017, I started hunting for my next goal. I began my photojournalism journey in 2019 after working for my local newspaper taking shots of anyone and anything. I have a background of short documentaries, video interviewing and editorial shots. My friends tell me I have a plethora of band/music knowledge that I now hope to put to good use.
