Gami Gang Takes NYC
Washington DC duo Origami Angel brought the final show of their latest headlining tour to a packed Webster Hall in support of their most recent album, Feeling Not Found. The crowd was eager in anticipation to see some of their favorite emo/poppunk-adjacent songs. Opening with the lead-in track, “Lost Signal” right into the much heavier “Dirty Mirror Selfie,” the building immediately began shaking from the energy of the crowd. You could feel the floor quaking beneath you from the crowd jumping around, moving, and singing along. Almost as soon as guitarist/vocalist Ryland Heagy hit his first few notes, a tidal wave of crowd surfers started coming over the barricade. It was a sight that would make some hardcore bands envious.
For being just a two-piece band, Heagy along with drummer Pat Doherty had a very full sound that reverberated around the room. Being provided with a ton of stage space that comes with only having two people, Heagy made use of the whole stage whenever he was not beholden to being at the mic stand. Feeding off the energy of the crowd, he jumped, ran around, and put on a show for the nearly sold out room. As much fun as the crowd was having, you could tell they were having just as much fun up on stage.
Origami Angel is on a meteoric rise, and members of the Gami Gang just keep multiplying. Keep an eye out for them if they come near your city, check out a show, and see what the hype is all about. Anyone with an interest in emo, pop-punk, and even melodic hardcore/post hardcore should be keen on these guys.
