TheFatRat & Everglow Release New Single "Ghost Light"

TheFatRat has managed to successfully transition his online following as a gamer to a musical career. With over six million YouTube followers, TheFatRat has a built-in audience to expose his newest musical endeavors to. His 2021 debut album, PARALLAX was highly anticipated and didn’t disappoint fans who were mesmerized by the cohesive storytelling in not just the lyrical content of the songs, but in the album as well. In 2014, TheFatRat released the song “Xenogenesis” which gained 100 million views and led the Outro music trend.

Other hit songs from TheFatRat include “Unity” and “Fly Away.” The latter song featured the Canadian singer, Anjulie. TheFatRat continues to collaborate with hot new artists. His latest release is “Ghost Light” which features the Korean girl band Everglow.

Breaking out of the traditional bubble gum sound of most K-Pop bands, Everglow offers a much stronger, seductive, and energetic alternative to music fans. The award-winning band creates bass-heavy EDM that compliments TheFatRat’s unique Gaming Music sound.

“Ghost Light” is a saxophone and horn-heavy track that offers listeners an alluring sound experience. The whole vibe is rather mysterious as the lyrics are cryptic yet lure the listener to follow every word. There are quick changes in tone from soothing to powerful. The effect is far from unpleasant as the whole production is top notch making the song exciting as it veers from ethereal to high energy with the closing drum climax.

“ ‘Ghost Light’ has a large variety in vocal styles,” said TheFatRat. “Luckily with Everglow, I found a perfect match for each part. I loved how Si-Heyon and Aisha made the verses sweet but mysterious, E:U gave the right energy to the bridge, and Mia and Onda simply killed the powerful parts in the chorus.”

The girls in Everglow are equally as generous with praise towards TheFatRat.

“[This collaboration] has a special place in my heart, and the fact that we got to work with Chris (TheFatRat) was such an honor,” said Aisha.

TheFatRat often has managed to find common ground with artists despite what limits genre or geographical location is placed in front of them. With “Ghost Light” TheFatRat has successfully forged a new sound by combing his signature style with that of his Japanese partners.

Everglow member Si-Hyeon was particularly fond of the lyrics in “Ghost Light.”

“My personal highlight was to record ‘come and get me’ in an almost yelling manner,” said Si-Hyeon. “I think that part of the song hypes up the energy and will be fun to listen to.”

“Ghost Light’ marks the first time that TheFatRat has collaborated with any artist from the dance music scene. The positive experience of recording “Ghost Light” may influence TheFatRat to continue such collaborations within the genre.
