GVLLOW Unveils Re-Recording of Single 'Fell In Love With A Ghost'

Genre-defying solo artist and producer Gvllow revisits one of his favorite tracks from his acclaimed 2021 Spiritwalker EP. The song, “I Fell in Love With a Ghost” is now a new single that was re-recorded, remixed, and remastered.

I always wanted to have this song remixed and remastered to give it the sound it sonically deserved and I’m proud to say I’ve finally made that dream come true.

The choice of reworking “I Fell in Love With a Ghost” was a personal one for Gvllow as the song is filled with a deep meaning that resonates with him. The inspiration came to Gvllow years during a rough period in his life.

I wrote this song 4 years ago and titled it after a song my late best friend Zak had written in an old band we were in together. I always loved the title and after his passing, I thought it would be cool to name that title after this song I recorded late one night. The lyrics came from a place where I was feeling more alone than ever. I was sitting in my studio by myself and was feeling very low and alone and saw a spider crawling across my wall spinning a web and I didn’t do a thing about it except watch the spider continue on, because it made me feel like at least I’m not completely alone. There’s a spider friend in the room with me and suddenly it sparked inspiration for the lyrics.

Originally Gvllow was primarily a hip-hop and trap artist, but on Spiritwalker he displayed a heavy influence from post-punk and darkwave. Traces of bands such as Drab Majesty, Sisters Of Mercy, and Bauhaus can be heard on the singles "Die By Your Hand," "Falling Down,” and "Not Sorry." This gothic sound was first heard on the “Last Dance” single off the 2020 album Gvllow. After Spiritwalker, Gvllow would continue with the darker sound on his Suffer EP.

Experimenting with musical genres is nothing new to Gvllow. He had grown up in Riverside, California where he was a part of the SoCal punk scene and spent his weekends at hardcore shows watching local heroes Dr Know, TSOL, and Narcoleptic Youth. His California roots also provided him with an appreciation of surf music, particularly for legendary performers like The Beach Boys and Dick Dale. Southern California was also the epicenter of the deathrock scene which laid the groundwork for what would later become the dark wave scene that Gvllow is currently working in.

It was in 2015 when Gvllow first made a name for himself in the underground rap scene. As a DJ, Gvllow collaborated with Ghostemane and Lil Peep while they were in the hip-hop collective Schemaposse. Gvllow spent time touring as DJ groups such as City Morgue. His first two solo albums were mostly rap music, but Gvllow did manage to work in some unique collaborations with artists across the musical spectrum including pop punk drummer Travis Barker, rapper Brennan Savage, and TSOL frontman Jack Grisham.

Gvllow has become a popular artist on digital platforms with more than 38 million career streams and 1.4 million YouTube views. His lyric video for “I Fell in Love With a Ghost” can be currently viewed on the Summerian Records YouTube channel. The single “I Fell in Love With a Ghost” is available to stream on various digital platforms.

GVLLOW has one epic show left on his debut solo headline tour, at Club Dominion in his hometown of Riverside, CA on Thursday, November 30th. Tickets available HERE.
