Mike Hrubovcak is a horror and fantasy illustrator who became an in-demand artist for death metal bands who appreciate his graphic and gory artwork. Hrubovcak first applied his skill for album cover art in 1993 when he drew the demo cover art for a high school death metal band Disillusion.
A metalhead to the core, Hrubovcak is also a talented vocalist who formed the band Divine Rapture along with his brother J.J. Hrubovcak, who would later join Hate Eternal. It was during his tenure in Divine Rapture that Hrubovcak would hone his artistic skills by creating artwork for his band’s albums and merchandise. Hrubovcak would also contribute musically to other bands such as Azure Emote, Hypoxia, I.C.E, Vile, and Monstrosity.
After transitioning his career into graphic arts, Hrubovcak worked in pen and ink, airbrush, and oil painting, illustrating album covers and fanzines within the metal scene. Hrubovcak's clients include Revolver Magazine, Relapse Records, MTV’s Headbangers Ball, Century Media Records, The Party.San, and the Maryland Death Fest. Beyond the metal scene, Hrubovcak has contributed artwork to various horror film DVD covers and background set dressing for the Universal Pictures psychological thriller Dream House. Hrubovcak’s artwork has been featured in art books and displayed in galleries internationally.
