British rock band Hot Milk have announced a new single off their debut album A Call to the Void. The track is titled, “Party on My Deathbed” and it is a sonic party anthem about reckless nights and backstage parties. “Party on My Deathbed” expresses the hedonistic lifestyle that Hot Milk lives and preaches

We can’t be helped, we just want to squeeze out every morsel of this life, and being a bit of a wreckhead has come hand-in-hand with the pursuit of fun,” said co-vocalist Han Mee. “Can’t be stopped, don’t want to be stopped, we’re sorry but we’re not, maybe we’re just lost. Who cares, life’s about connection and getting off the fucking internet and losing your mind on the streets of Manny and finding it again on your way home.

The song’s lyrics are seductive in a devilish way. The line, “lovers of the night, haters of the daylight, come one come all,” entices the listener to join in on the wicked fun. Musically, “Party on My Deathbed” is representative of Hot Milk’s unique blend of influences. Hot Milk is usually referred to as an emo or power pop band, but  “Party on My Deathbed” displays a combo of synthesized electronic beats and metallic guitar riffs. Influences “Party on My Deathbed” as divergent as the electronica sound of Prodigy and the indie alt-rock of Paramore can be heard in “Party on My Deathbed.”

The title, A Call to the Void is the English translation of an interesting French phrase, “l’appel du vide.” The phrase refers to the tendency of the human brain to think of ways to die. For instance, a person standing on a train platform may briefly fantasize about jumping in front of a moving train. The band chose the title to highlight the fragility of life.

Hot Milk describes their brand of rock as “positive nihilism.” Alternating between light and dark, serious and humorous, Hot Milk’s music carries listeners on a journey through the extremes of human experience. “Party on My Deathbed” is Hot Milk’s third single off A Call to the Void. The first single “Horror Show” is an energetic and heavy track with a nightmarish video to match the intensity of the song. Hot Milk followed with a decidedly different track, “Bloodstream,” which had a more alt-pop sound.

A Call to the Void track listing:
Welcome to the….
Horror Show
Bloodstream
Party on My Deathbed
Alice Cooper’s Pool House
Zoned Out
Over Your Dead Body

Hot Milk has always had tight control over their sound. Co-vocalist Jim Shaw spearheaded much of the production of A Call to the Void himself. He had experience producing the band’s three previous EPs. Production was done in Manchester, Los Angeles, and Stockholm.

A Call to the Void is set to drop on August 25th via Music For Nations. To promote the album Hot Milk will tour across the United States, the United Kingdom, and Europe this summer.

Live is where I’m happiest, live is where it’s home,” says Han. “We wrote songs with the intention of people going off, making you feel good, opening the pit up, letting go, crying, getting on your mate’s shoulders. It’s church for us.
