Icona Pop masterfully fuses pop and dance, creating an infectious energy and undeniable spirit through rewriting rules, relying on instinct, and embracing freedom. Aino Jawo and Caroline Hjelt are a multiplatinum Swedish duo who've taken their music from after-hours underground DJ sets to the charts, sold out festivals, and beyond. With CLUBROMANTECH, their second full-length album, they bring this vision to life like never before.
A master class of bold dance pop and infectious crossover club tracks, CLUB ROMANTECH marks a thrilling new chapter in the career of an era-defining artist. The duo further cements their place in the Swedish pop canon with the kind of classy tears-in-the-club euphoria the country has become so synonymous with, not to mention plenty of deliciously razor sharp Icona Pop sass and a supporting cast of dance royalty collaborators including Ultra Naté, Galantis, Joel Corry and Sofi Tukker.
Icona Pop sold their Los Angeles home to return to Stockholm to quarantine at the dawn of the Global Pandemic, and thus CLUB ROMANTECH was born. The longtime friends returned to the studio where it all began after their plans had been derailed and their focus had changed. As proven performers and accomplished songwriters, the pair reconnected with their electronic and alternative roots from an evolved perspective, ‘getting back to what we love’ in multiple ways.
With 15 tracks of delightful bittersweetness and infectious peak-time dance energy, CLUB ROMANTECH is a musical triumph. From the immaculate dance-melancholia of ‘Stockholm At Night’, whose glitchy groove underlines a captivating call-and-response with a cinematic refrain, “Makes me wonder what you’re doing tonight”. The duo offer up a wide range of music, whether it's the sultry, yearning electro pop of 'Need You', or the club-hedonistic hedonism of 'Faster'.
With its summery piano house sound, ‘Loving You Ain’t Easy’ takes us to all corners of the club universe, evoking Jayda G or Peggy Gou style, and ‘Where Do We Go From Here’ is a chantable anthemic with rave synths and signature Icona Pop bravado mixed with reflectiveness, echoing the pivotal circumstances surrounding its creation.
Icona Pop originally heralded this new chapter with a series of powerhouse collaborations, including ‘SPA’ with Sofi Tukker (WATCH), ‘Off My Mind’ with VIZE (LISTEN) and ‘You’re Free’ with Ultra Naté (LISTEN), all of which appear on CLUB ROMANTECH. Bringing us into 2023, Icona Pop continued to pave a path for the album with the first official single ‘I Want You’ with Galantis (LISTEN), followed by fan-favorite tracks ‘Faster’ (LISTEN), ‘Shit We Do For Love’ (with Yaeger) (LISTEN) and ‘Desire’ a collaboration with multi BRIT-nominated DJ/producer Joel Corry and breakout UK house & UKG producer outfit Rain Radio (LISTEN), bringing the listener on a journey that twists and turns down a rabbit hole of overpowering attraction fueled by thumping bass, nocturnal electronic accents, and another hypnotic hook.
