Iron Maiden: Legacy of the Beast

Fans of RPGs and heavy metal will be excited to know that Iron Maiden has announced a new collaboration regarding their hit game, Iron Maiden: Legacy of the Beast. Previous collaborations with Amon Amarth and Lacuna Coil were well received by fans. Now the Swedish rockers Ghost will be joining this impressive collection of bands who are part of Iron Maiden’s gaming universe.

“It’s great that the LOTB mobile game continues to innovate,” said Iron Maiden manager, Rod Smallwood. “The introduction of other great band images and characters is a great evolution of the initial idea we had for Eddie’s gaming universe over 5 years ago.”

Players get to be Eddie, the band’s beloved and creepy mascot. Mimicking the many forms that he has appeared as on album covers throughout the band’s illustrious history, Eddie’s mission is to gather the fragmented pieces of his soul scattered across various worlds. These nightmarish worlds are inspired by themes from Iron Maiden’s albums and have foreboding names such as Infernal Dungeon, Dracula’s Castle, Raven’s Altar and Limbo of Lost Souls. It’s in these worlds and monthly events that players can earn rare rewards.

The current event is the Mascarade Diabolique. Papa Emeritus IV, the persona of Ghost lead vocalist Tobias Forge, joins Eddie in attending a party in Transylvania. Taking inspiration from the Ghost song “Dance Macabre” and the Iron Maiden album Dance of Death, the party turns deadly when the revelers lose free will and are mind-controlled by a being called Cardinal Immortus, an evil doppelganger of Papa Emeritus.

Asked how he felt about the new collaboration, Tobias Forge answered, “Joy that it’s actually happening. I’m happy to see that my creature is being led into [Maiden’s] world. That is a cool thing, both very humbling and flattering.”

This online gaming collaboration isn’t the first time Ghost and Iron Maiden have worked together. The two bands have toured with each other and played to packed stadiums around the world.

“To have our friends, Ghost bring Papa Emeritus IV into a dungeon feels like the culmination of a relationship dating back to 2013 when the band first came with us to South America,” said Smallwood. “With more slots on the Maiden England Tour in ’14 and then a proper run with us throughout North America on the 2017 The Book of Souls Tour we got to know that our fans appreciated seeing them and that they’d always be welcome with us on the road. I’m sure Eddie will help Papa cause some serious mayhem together and that’s what it’s all about!”

With over 4 million players, Iron Maiden: Legacy of the Beast is already the #1 mobile RPG charting on multiple markets. Developed by Vancouver-based software company Navigator Games, Iron Maiden: Legacy of the Beast has become the company’s signature game. In addition to multiple worlds and characters inspired by Iron Maiden album covers and songs, the game also has an in-game soundtrack made up of over 30 tracks from the band’s hitmaking career.

Iron Maiden isn’t just content on playing video games. The band plans to go back on tour again. Their last 2 tours in 2018 and 2019 were also called “Legacy of the Beast” and the stage show incorporated characters and worlds from the game and the comic book of the same name from Heavy Metal magazine. Expect the 2022 “Legacy of the Beast” World Tour to do the same.

From now till November 12th, 4 PM PT, players can earn the Papa Emeritus IV character when they log in a total of 7 days. Iron Maiden: Legacy of the Beast is free-to-play and available on both the Apple App Store and Google Play.
