Belgian gothic rock duo Lovelorn Dolls have announced that they will release their fourth album Deadtime Stories on May 24th alongside an accompanying book of original illustrations and photograph's
Deadtime Stories is the long-awaited return of Lovelorn Dolls. The pair, Kristell Lowagie and Bernard Daubresse, took a five-year hiatus. At that time Lowagie embraced photography as an artistic outlet, rebranded herself as Krystell in Wonderland and exhibited her work throughout Europe. It is her photographs that illustrate Deadtime Stories: the Book.
In anticipation of the release date, Lovelorn Dolls have already dropped three singles off Deadtime Stories. The tracks “A Heart Cries,” Dream World,” and “Beautiful Chaos” are available to download on all digital platforms.
Lovelorn Dolls have always leaned heavily towards the gothic rock of Theatre of Tragedy, Lacuna Coil, Jack Off Jill, and The Birthday Massacre. On Deadtime Stories the duo embraces synth metal sound on certain tracks and utilizes heavy guitars and industrial beats. The result is an album that is all at once, catchy, creepy, heavy, and melodic.

On Deadtime Stories, Lovelorn Dolls put a dark twist on children’s fairy tales and nursery rhymes. The melodies on Deadtime Stories have a child-like resonance while lyrically the songs deal with death and shattered dreams. The art of Deadtime Stories matches the innocence and gloom of the songs as evident in the dark fantasy of Kristell in Wonderland’s photographs and the cute, but weird album cover art.
Lovelorn Dolls recruited a couple of artists they admire to guest on Deadtime Stories. The album features a duet with ex-OOMPH! vocalist Dero Goi, on the track “Dancing at Your Funeral.” Goth rapper VVitchboy also provides some verses to '’Death & Glory.” Deadtime Stories was produced, mixed, and mastered by Maxx Maryan who is renowned for his work with Helalyn Flowers and IMJUDAS.
Deadtime Stories was preceded earlier this year by the EP Beautiful Chaos. An album of broken love songs, Beautiful Chaos featured EBM, ethereal wave, and industrial remixes by The Breath of Life, Absynthe of Faith, Audiapyre, Restriction 9, and Antidote for Annie.
Deadtime Stories can be preordered through the band’s labels Alfa Matrix/SPLEEN+ or ordered directly from the Lovelorn Dolls Bandcamp page.
