Misterwives are breaking out from their traditional indie-pop boundaries and are entering a redefined era with their new single, “Out of Your Mind” via Photo Finish Records. The once golden and shimmering Misterwives have transformed themselves into an anarchic dark band who are not afraid to use their voice. The newly independent band are building up a storm creating chaos and unchaining themselves.

With their newfound ignited passion and determination, Misterwives are taking the reins into a different stylistic musical approach by stepping out of their close knit bubble to unleash their inner rage. The five piece band consists of frontwoman Mandy Lee, Etienne Bowler (drummer/producer), William Hehir (bass), Marc Campbell (guitar), and Mike Murphy (saxophone/keys) formed in 2012 and debuted their first album, Our Own House in 2015. Misterwives has then since released a multitude of songs including their sophomore album, Connect The Dots in 2017 and their most praised and recognizable album, SUPERBLOOM in 2020.

Their new relentless single, “Out of Your Mind” completely blows off the usual expectations that previously came from Misterwives past discography and thrown into a whole new different level, showcasing the band’s instrumental progression and artistic growth. The song is a representation of repressed anger letting loose with powerful and direct lyricism that takes a stand against treacherous deceitfulness. The chorus reads: “Stab my back and twist it twice, like that first time I’ll survive. Blood on your hands it isn’t mine, if you think I’ll lay down and die, You’re outta your goddamn mind.” The muffled and distorted vocals from Lee shows the implication of having her hands being tied behind her back wanting to be set free and disentangled from a web of lies and tricks. Lee’s vocals are then polished and stripped down to uncage her extreme outrage.

‘Out of Your Mind’ came from a time when I experienced devastating betrayal from people I trusted. This paradigm shift sent me into a deep spiral of self-doubt–one that gave weight to scathing comments and made me question whether or not it was time to give up on music…Instead of succumbing to the doubt, I finally began my journey with therapy and a new, emboldened sense of self emerged that fueled what became this album.
— Mandy Lee comments on the new track

Sonically, “Out Your Mind” is a radical production of energetic and pounding drums that leaves you wanting more and heavy driven guitars that have the fueling capacity to start a wildfire, classically paired with added pops of synths that still carries the integrity of past Misterwives works.

The new Misterwives music video directed by Matty Vogel sets various versions of Mandy Lee imprisoned and confined in a rage room with her own mind stuck in a repetitive loop. The multiple personalities shown portray Lee’s different emotions tied with being in a restrictive boundary imposed by the industry. As she becomes aware of the recurring situations, the constant pain finally awakes her and fights to regain back her power and vitality ultimately setting her free.

Mandy and I wrote the concept for the video together, and it’s a really transparent and honest representation of the journey she’s been on. It was important to show that your pain can become your power and used to set yourself free, which is the crux of this song and album.
— Director Matty Vogel behind the inspiration of the “Out of Your Mind” music video
