April 13, 2024 - Movements brought the 2024 Ruckus tour to Roadrunner in Boston, Massachusetts for a night full of alternative rock and indie jams. This tour features Pennsylvania rock band Tigers Jaw, upcoming Indie/rock band Webbed Wing, and French alternative rock band Paerish.

Formed in Paris, France in 2015, Paerish was the first band to take the stage. After introducing themselves, they jumped right into their set, the first song played was “Daydreaming”, off their latest album You're in Both Dreams (And You’re Scared). This song set the crowd up for the rest of their set perfectly, vocalist and guitarist Matthias Court had a calm soothing voice, one that seemed to resonate well with the crowd, with many people even singing along to one of their biggest hits off of this album. The set also featured a magnificent guitar solo from Frédéric Wah.

Rolling seamlessly into the rest of their set, the band played through hits such as “Houses of American Style”, “Undone”, “Amanita”, and “Still There”, and featured their latest 2024 release “Knot”. The band expressed great energy through the set, engaging with the crowd and shredding on their instruments, the band combines a good amount of heavily distorted guitar to create a more alternative influence to their music. Their newest single was faster-paced, and got the crowd moving, with even a small push pit forming. The set ended with the band thanking everyone for coming to see them on their first-ever tour in the United States, especially Movements. This rolled into their final song, “Undone” which most of the crowd seemed to love, with almost everyone singing or dancing along.

If you’ve never heard of Webbed Wing before, I highly recommend checking them out. With over 60,000 listeners on Spotify, I expected this Philadelphia-based band to be good, but they far surpassed my expectations. Webbed Wing provides a sound that combines 90’s alternative rock with modern-day indie, with a touch of pop-rock to create their unique sound. The three-piece band formed in 2018, and has since released two studio albums, Bike Ride Across The Moon and What's So F*ucking Funny?.

The set opened with their newest 2024 single, “Further”,  to be featured on their upcoming release Webbed Wing Vol. III. The set rolled through some of the band’s biggest songs, “Perfect”, with a beautiful guitar solo by vocalist Taylor Madison, as well as “For Real”, a heavily bass and drum-led song. After this, the set got a little heavier, and the small mosh pit in the crowd got bigger as the band rolled into songs “I’m Feelin Alive” and “Grew a Tail”, by this point in the set the band had the crowd singing and dancing along, feeling the music.

The rest of the set was filled with some of the band's biggest hits, the mosh pit grew as the distorted guitar rang out throughout the songs, bridging each song seamlessly together. After a couple more songs, the band concluded their set with their biggest song, “Make A Dime'', with over 1.2 million listens on Spotify, I can see why this is their biggest song, it's a slower song, containing raw emotion in the vocals, giving off a major 1990’s to early 2000’s vibe, this song created a perfect bridge to the next set.

Finally, it was time for the main opener, the crowd was ecstatic when Scranton, Pennsylvania’s finest alternative band, Tigers Jaw came out. Starting off the bat with an older song, “Hum” off their 2014 album Charmer, Tigers Jaw automatically had the crowd screaming along. Even though this was a slower song of theirs, they kicked it up a notch in the next few songs, playing “Reckless” from their Old Clothes EP. Though for the majority of the set, Ben Walsh was the main vocalist, the next song, “Cat’s Cradle” was led by keyboardist Brianna Collins. Her angelic voice had appeared numerous times in the set thus far as backing vocals, but her pure, isolated vocals were stunning, and hearing the crowd screaming along to every word she sang made it even better.

Carrying through their set, Tiger’s Jaw played an array of old and new songs with fans off their feet, clapping, singing, moshing, and two-stepping in the pit. The melodic guitar in their songs captured their fans' attention, perfectly accenting the vocals of both Walsh and Collins. Playing a lineup of songs off of their album I Won’t Care How You Remember Me, the fans seemed to be especially into this short section of the set, singing along to tracks ``Never Wanted To”, “New Detroit'' and the title track of the album “I Don't Care How You Remember Me”.

Approaching the end of the set, Tiger Jaw kicked it back to their older music, ending off their set with songs such as “Plane Vs. Tank Vs. Submarine '' and “I Saw Water” off their 2008 self-titled album. Encouraging crowd surfing, Roadrunner erupted, pits burst open as crowd surfers went flying towards the stage, and people were singing at the top of their lungs word for word. After a few more engaging songs, the set ended with “Window”, ending a chaotic set calmly, even though the crowd was still moshing a crow's surf, the duet between Walsh and Collins created the perfect dynamic to end the set.

Finally, after hours of excitement, it was time for Movements. The crowd chanted “Movements… Movements… Movements'', building up the anticipation until finally, the band began to walk onto the stage. Thousands of fans cheered as the opening riff of “Lead Pipe” started, the pit broke open, and crowd surfers started to fly over the crowd as vocalist Patrick Miranda sang the first lines of “Lead Pipe” off of their 2023 album RUCKUS! Movements are known for their connection with their fans, and their relatable lyrics of heartbreak, breakups, depression, anxiety, and more. The next two songs were off of RUCKUS!, “Fail You”, a song that kept the crowd’s energy high, and “Killing Time”, the song that set the standard for the pit for the night.

Moving to the next song, “Cherry Thrill”, I am convinced there was not one patron in the venue not singing, the singing was so loud you could barely hear Miranda. Cherry Thrill came out in August of 2022, about a year before the release of RUCKUS! in August of 2023. Though the pit was calmer during this set, the energy was high, the crowd was singing along, waving their arms to the melody of the song. This rolled into “Full Circle” and “Colorblind”, the first songs off of the band’s 2017 release Feel Something. Digging into Movement’s older style, the crowd still did not stop singing, though the pit got larger and larger as the songs went on. The melodic guitar and the dynamic groovy drumming.

The next set of songs has the crowd moving more than they had all night, “I Hope You Choke!” off of RUCKUS!, “Skin to Skin” off Feel Something, and “Tightrope” and “A.M.P.” off of RUCKUS!. Fans were singing, jumping, moshing, crowd surfing, and overall just feeding Movement’s love for their astonishing run of songs. This was great given that the previous shows had been a bit rough for vocalist Patrick Miranda due to illness, this was the perfect, high-energy first show back.

Coming to the end of the set, the band played “Kept” from their 2016 album Outgrown Things. Though this is an older song, this is the one that got the crowd moving the most. Knowing we were coming to an end, the mosh pit opened as wide as it had been the whole night, crowd surfers made their way to the stage three or four at a time the entire song.

Finally, we came to the last song. The band expressed before the song started that Boston was the first place they played outside of their hometown, and since it was the first, they have been coming back time and time again. They had seen some of the same people since the beginning, but one of the people was gone, they were no longer with us. Therefore, the last song was dedicated to that person. The opening bridge to “Daylily” came on and the crowd didn’t miss a beat the entire song. Everyone sang along to the band’s biggest, most emotional song. Making a perfect conclusion to the perfect set.
