SiM Announce New Album 'PLAYDEAD', New Single “Red” For Netflix Anime Series "Kengan Ashura", & Tour Dates

Japanese band SiM has attracted a devoted following to their unique blending of heavy metal, punk rock, and reggae. Fans of the genre-busting group will be delighted to know that SiM will be dropping a new album on September 27th via UNFD. The album, titled, Playdead features their latest single, “Red.” The song finds the band taking a nu-metal approach to their sound.

We aimed at creating sounds that reflect the deep respect we have for the heavy music from the early 2000s, like Limp Bizkit and Korn,” said vocalist MAH. “The main distortion guitar for the backing is an arrangement of the rhythm from Evanescence’s ‘Going Under.’ The song embodies the history of rock music that’s ingrained in our flesh and blood, our DNA.

The lyrics to “Red” explore unfortunate humanity’s tendency towards tribalism and conflict.

The theme of the lyrics is ‘The Meaninglessness of Division,’ said MAH. “We all have different cultures, speak different languages, have different physical attributes, etc. These are facts. But at the end of the day when you cut through the skin, what flows out is the same. Bright red blood. And yet regardless of being in close proximity of one another, the same country, the same city, the same school, even the same class, we as humans try to divide. Groups are formed for foolish reasons, like favorite TV programs or celebrities that they dislike, and try to expose the traitors. Sadly, this can occur amongst music fans too. Fans watching the same band at the same live venue may say ‘I don’t like the person next to me’ and start instigating mindless discussions on social media. It’s a total waste of time. As artists, this is the very thing we despise the most. We want everyone to view us as their friends and family.

“Red” is featured in season two of the popular Netflix anime series Kengan Ashura. This isn’t SiM’s first time having their music associated with an anime series. The hit singles, “The Rumbling” and “Under the Tree” were featured on Attack on Titan and together garnered more than 300 million streams across DSPs and over 53 million views on YouTube.

As a live act, SiM has excited fans across the world with their performances. Their reception at this year’s Download Festival in the UK was well-received. That performance followed their incredible headlining shows at the Crunchyroll Expo and Echoplex in California and the sold-out concert at London's O2 Islington. Fans who couldn’t make it to those shows will get to see SiM live as they embark on the Jackpot Juicer North American Tour. The tour also features the bands Dance Gavin Dance, Rain City Drive, and Within Destruction.

SiM squeezes in a festival show during the tour on September 22nd in Louisville, KY as they join a stacked lineup on Louder Than Life. As if that wasn’t enough, SiM follows up with another festival performance just soon as the tour is complete. On October 1st, SiM will play Swanfest in Philadelphia, PA at the Mann Center. Swanfest sees the entire line-up of the Jackpot Juicer North American Tour share a stage with the bands Periphery, Set It Off, Body Thief, Dwellings, and Stola.
