Atlanta-based glam rockers Starbenders have released their much-anticipated single “The Game” via Sumerian Records. “The Game” is the latest of the band’s singles that have been released since the 2020 LP Love Potion. Previous releases included the tracks “No One Listened,” “Seven White Horses,” “If You Need It,” and “Blood Moon.” The newest single continues the band’s successful track record of crafting modern glitter rock hits.
“We wrote ‘The Game’ to inspire those who are feeling low on luck and overlooked by a world that’s often unforgiving. A battle cry for the downtrodden underdogs. We cooked up a sound to summon the feeling of self-generated power guided by Gods, angels, and ghosts. You can torch all obstacles and silence the doubters once and for all with a little bit of faith. It’s all in the way you play The Game”
On “The Game” Kimi Shelter displays why she is one of the more exciting songwriters in modern rock. Her lyrics convey a sense of darkness and creativity. While dark, her lyrics are often empowering such as in the following lines:
“Ain’t no use in burning witches
When we die we’re twice as vicious
Fire burns inside your eyes
The power’s yours, take back the night”
The lyrical power of Kimi Shelter can be fully enjoyed in the official lyric video for “The Game” that Starbenders has produced to compliment the single’s release.
Starbenders was formed in 2014 in Atlanta, Georgia by vocalist Kimi Shelter and bassist Aaron Lecesne. The band’s debut EP Starbenders is where fans first got to enjoy the band’s signature sound that shows heavy influences from glam rock, hair metal, punk, new romantic, and goth. Since debuting Starbenders has released two studio albums, three LPs, one 7-inch record, and twenty singles. Every release has been a fantastic example of rock and roll brilliance. Listening to “The Game” makes you want to hear more songs filled with grit and glitter from the Starbenders.
