Tarja Shares "All I Want For Christmas Is You"

This holiday season traditional Christmas music gets metalized as symphonic metal chanteuse Tarja releases her new album Dark Christmas. Tarja has also dropped a new music video for the single, a cover of the Mariah Carey classic “All I Want for Christmas is You.”

As the founder of the symphonic metal band Nightwish and a successful solo artist, Tarja has made a career from her powerful and emotional voice in the hard rock and metal genres. Recording a heavy metal Christmas album may seem unusual to most people but for anyone familiar with Tarja’s career, they would know that she has a particular affinity for the winter holiday. In 2017 Tarja released From Spirits and Ghosts (Score for a Dark Christmas). One track from that album, "O Christmas Tree," is included as a B-side along with her cover of the Wham! holiday classic “Last Christmas” on the “All I Want for Christmas is You” single.

Tarja’s take on “All I Want for Christmas is You” displays her signature operatic singing style and blending of gothic and classical music influences. In addition to Mariah Carey and Wham!, Tarja covered holiday hits from Bing Crosby and Paul McCartney. The album also features an original song, “Dark Christmas.”

It was fascinating to dive into this new world. You will appreciate these Christmas songs with our spooky arrangements truly sound in a way they never did before. It was my pleasure to team up once again with Jim Dooley and Tim Palmer. I hope you will dig in our take of a Dark Christmas spirit.
