THE BRIEFS Breaking All of the Rules on "High Society" EP
Seattle-based punk rockers The Briefs are back and are intent on showing that time has not slowed them down. The band have already recorded new material and have hit the road. Their latest album High Society is out now via TKO Records.
The Briefs first busted out in the post-grunge landscape of Seattle in late 90s. When thealternative scene went stale, The Briefs provided a much-needed shot in the arm for the localmusic community and brought the scene back to its punk roots with their 2000 debut Hit After Hit.The band became known for frenetic guitars and rebellious lyrics sung with a sneer. TheBriefs balanced their punk attitude with power pop which infected their music with relentlesscatchy hooks. The group had been on hiatus since 2019’s Platinum Rats. With the 7” HighSociety EP The Briefs have made a much-anticipated return to the scene.
The title track is fun and energetic and reminiscent of old-school punk with a social message. “You Can Move Me” is a lover song that doesn’t get sappy, it just rocks just as hard as reminiscent of The Buzzcocks. I Gotta Go has that simple, to-the-point ethos of early albums from the Ramones.
TKO Records has also rereleased The Briefs’ first single, Poor and Weird b/w Rotten Love. Long sought after by collectors, Poor and Weird b/w Rotten Love is a classic recording from The Briefs and a favorite among fans.
The Briefs are currently hitting stages on both sides of the Atlantic. The band just completed asuccessful tour of Europe, before returning to the United States playing a series of shows in theWest Coast. There are currently plans for a tour throughout the United Kingdom in December.
