The band released their first EP, Take Control in 2019 quickly followed by their second EP, Love’s Not Enough in 2020. The Mysterines released their debut Reeling of March 2022 produced by acclaimed producer Catherine Marks (Wolf Alice, The Big Moon, PJ Harvey). Reeling is an album that manifested through the dark-somber forces of nature serving as a compilation dealing with heartache, grief, and self annihilation layered ever so gently by witty british sarcasm. In 2022, they released All These Things EP that includes live rendition of the tracks from Reeling performed at London’s Rough Trade East.
Their new single, “Begin Again” is the precursor introduction to their forthcoming LP album that showcases the four piece group refining their matured sound powered alongside meaningful introspective lyricism with their dark and gritty sound. The track received its first worldwide live play from Clara Amfo on BBC Radio 1, marking the beginning of a new cycle for The Mysterines.
“Begin Again” resides in a dreary and gothic atmospheric setting that generates a lingering aura filled with nostalgia. The track is consumed by a mixture of acoustic and guitars allowing space for Metcalfe’s raspy and striking voice to break through. The grunge-rock influence throughout the song immerses you into a different energetic field of another universe.
The lyrics in the second verse of the track provokes a sense of self awareness of mortality and nightmares coming into fruition that fulfills a spine chilling sensation, “For how far does this stretch? The clock it stops and starts again. As you swallow stars made out of flesh, the mirror begins to shriek. Or am I you no longer me? Listen, the thing you fear is singing.” The poetic songwriting signifies an emergence questioning the fabric of time signaling a confrontationof one’s shadow and the expansion of soul.
Since their phenomenal success on their critically acclaimed debut album Reeling, The Mysterines embarked on two tours across the UK and North America, as well as one in the EU. The rising electrifying power of The Mysterines is still growing as they hit the road once again supporting their musical heroes, Arctic Monkeys on their UK Stadium summer tour.
