The Rural Alberta Advantage Visits New York City
After having to postpone a run of Northeastern tour dates in 2022 due to a bad case of COVID-19 hitting the band, Canada’s The Rural Alberta Advantage returned to New York City’s Bowery Ballroom on March 23rd, 2023. A crisp night on the Lower East Side, fans were eager to gather and dance the night away.
Alberta born, Ontario based Nils Edenloff along with bandmates Amy Cole and Paul Banwatt quickly filled the room with their energetic sounds and thoughtful storytelling. The band included a few new songs in their set, written during the pandemic, to give fans a bit of a treat with their EP The Rise before their next highly anticipated album is completed and released. They had brought fellow Torontonian Georgia Harmer along to open the show, to warm up the crowd with her nostalgic feeling songs.
Throughout the night, The RAA spoke about how happy they were to have her on tour with them, and also made their gratitude for the fans very clear. Keyboardist Amy Cole took a moment to share that some friends had come down to New York to watch the show, which brought a bit of home to them while on the road, and expressed that every fan in the room was as much of a part of the band’s family as anyone close to them was. Edenloff also touched on the family dynamic of the night before performing Vulcan, AB, as he had learned that he had written about the tiny town without knowing that it was where his grandmother had grown up. As the evening went on, it really did feel as though everyone knew each other and had gathered for a big reunion. That’s the power of music.
