Thursday Celebrates “War All The Time”
Thursday wrapped up the celebration of the 20th anniversary of their major-label debut War All The Time with a sold out performance at New York’s Irving Plaza with a rousing and energetic set to cap off a months-long run that began last summer.
Opening up Many Eyes, a new band formed by long time scene fixture Keith Buckley, former vocalist of Every Time I Die. They blazed through their nine song set with the passion and ferocity bands many years younger could only hope to match. Keith’s vocals were as ferocious and vitriolic as anything he has done with has past band, and has not missed a step in his time away from the stage.

Following was Rival Schools, an NYC based band led by Walter Schreifels, of legendary NYHC band Gorilla Biscuits (among other notable projects such as Youth of Today and Quicksand), on their first tour in over a decade after reuniting for a few small shows. Playing most of their debut album United by Fate, as well as a few songs off of follow up Pedals, Rival Schools got the crowd even more worked up in anticipation of what was to come.

Finally, when Thursday came on, there was not a single person able to stand still through their play through of War All The Time. The beloved album influenced countless bands in today’s post-hardcore scene, and sounds just as fresh today as it did upon release. Frontman Geoff Rickly kept the energy from the night going, barely ever stopping to catch his breath, with the crowd hanging on his every word, and joining him for most. Following the album, they closed out the set with “Jet Black New Year”, before coming out for a three song encored consisting of the songs “Cross Out The Eyes” and “Understanding in a Car Crash” before sending the crowd home with the song “Turnpike Divides” off of No Devoluciôn, their final album.
