Tina Guo Releases New Single “Moonhearts In Space” Featuring System of A Down’s Serj Tankian
The virtuoso cellist Tina Guo continues to expand the traditional fanbase of classical music. Her most recent collaboration with System of a Down frontman Serj Tankian is a clear indication of her efforts to reach new audiences. Their song, “Moonhearts in Space,” appears in Guo’s latest album, Dies Irae.
"I am so excited for the Dies Irae album release after three years in the making, and to share the “Moonhearts in Space” song and video with everyone,” said Guo. “I have been a huge fan of Serj for so many years and it really was a dream come true to be able to collaborate together. A huge preemptive thank you to everyone for taking the time out of your day to listen and watch, the amazing support and positivity over the years has been an incredible blessing and I'm so grateful for you!"
The song, ‘Moonhearts in Space” features Tankian singing in operatic fashion and occasionally breaking into spoken word verse while Guo is playing an electric cello. Despite the electric instruments and vocals by a metal musician, “Moonhearts in Space” never becomes a bombastic type of heavy metal song. Instead, it is a beautiful and haunting song that is no less emotionally charged than what would have been expected from such a collaboration. The accompanying music video takes the space theme literally with the sci-fi fashioned Guo playing in a space station to a hologram of Tankian. The experience of working with Guo was inspiring to Tankian who got philosophical in describing the themes of the song.
"I really enjoyed working with Tina on “Moonhearts in Space,” said Tankian. “Her ability to take classical and destroy it with rock and metal is really enjoyable. At a time when we are already traveling to space, it’s imperative to realize the intention with which we travel inwardly or out.”
This was the not first time Guo has worked with a metal musician. She can be seen in the recent Sabaton video, “Steel Commanders” promoting the online game, World of Tanks. Guo has a great deal of experience in blockbuster films and video game soundtracks including Wonder Woman, The Lion King, Inception, Dunkirk, Pirates of the Caribbean 5, X-Men Dark Phoenix, Iron Man 2, Cyberpunk 2077, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, 3, & 4, League of Legends, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, CSI: NY, and Vikings. She will next appear in the soundtrack for the highly anticipated sci-fi epic Dune.
Other tracks previously released from Dies Irae include “Moonlight Sonata,” “Toccata and Fugue,” and “Adagio for Strings and Organ.” Along with “Moonhearts in Space” they show what an amazing talent Tina Guo is. Her crossover appeal has garnered her millions of social media followers, award nominations, and critical praise.
