Afterus Releases Video For Single "Obsidian Moon"
On October 22nd, New York-based metal band Afterus released their music video for their latest single “Obsidian Moon”. This band perfectly meshes together and harnesses elements of folk, symphony, goth, death, doom, and experimental to incite the realization of unity through apocalyptic loss and devastation.
Vocalist Benjamin Bard told us exclusively:
“The lyrics to Obsidian Moon were written during the most uncertain part of the quarantine, when so many people were struggling with facing a different and terrifying time when so much was seemingly lost. My partner was teaching me about different ritualistic practices and we often practiced during the new moon by candlelight. These rituals inspired Obsidian Moon. The song is a ritualistic incantation asking the universe to bring healing and light to the world's suffering and darkness.”
“At its core, the band is inspired by the theory that all human civilization will eventually fall because of its absence of compassion, and its inability to coexist within itself and within its environment, invoking thematic elements from paganism, witchcraft, the occult, gothic and romantic poetry, literary criticism, fantasy, and dystopian and post-apocalyptic literature. The music begs us to ask what will happen after what we know as our world eventually ends when nature inevitably reclaims all that was created and destroyed by us when all that is left of humanity are those who survive, the stories they tell, and the music they create... what will truly be left of us after us?”
