Album of the Year 2024
It’s that time of year again that here at Death Moth Press we share our top albums of the year and what a year for music it was. So many artists, many albums released, and it’s never easy to narrow down a top favorite, nor a top 5. Trying to choose one song, one album, one artist that can define a year for any isn’t an easy feat in itself but we tried our best to narrow down the ones that resonated with us individually. No matter what genre you prefer, you find gems in places you never expect to along the way as the year progresses.
From all of us here at Death Moth Press, we’d like to share with all you which album(s) were our individual favorites and the reasons why.

2024 hands down belongs to Kentucky’s very own Knocked Loose and it has been a HUGE year for them. They released their highly anticipated 3rd album You Won't Go Before You're Supposed To on May 10th, they received their first ever Grammy Nomination for their single Suffocate featuring Poppy, America was front row to their insane live performance on Jimmy Kimmel which left sensitive ears crying over their lack of acceptance to thinking outside the box, and announced their biggest UK tour.
Fans of Knocked Loose have been losing their minds over the incredible success of their hardest album to date proving that staying true to yourself, your message, and pushing the boundaries of how heavy you can get shows just what you are capable of proving to the world what your place is in it. Ever since they came out with their first album Laughing Tracks back in 2016, they haven’t stopped to let any hate or artistic freedom stop them from taking over the hardcore scene in their own right.
From start to finish, much like past albums and EP’s, Knocked Loose kicks you right in the teeth and doesn’t stop swinging with their impressively heavier and more mature continuation after their last album A Different Shade of Blue from 2019.
Love them or hate them, this band shows no signs of slowing down for anybody and I can’t wait to see what these guys create next because it’s only up from here.

With a new generation of bands embracing new wave, post-punk, and goth influences, it is no surprise that a band like The Cure remains relevant to contemporary music fans. After 16 years away from the spotlight The Cure returned this year with their highly anticipated album, Songs Of A Lost World. Production on Songs Of A Lost World took 5 years to complete, but the wait was worth it. Songs Of A Lost World has otherworldly instrumentals and deep and insightful lyrics. The characteristic gloom of Robert Smith seems even more purposeful now as he has aged and reflects on his past and legacy. Age has not diminished Smith’s vocals, or the band’s musicianship. Songs Of A Lost World has the same power and artistry that flowed through The Cure’s landmark albums Disintegration and Wish. Listening to Songs Of A Lost World reminds you why you fell hard for this band in the first place.

On 24th May, 2024, Bring Me The Horizon – a metal/rock band from Sheffield, England, that consists of Oli Sykes (vocals), Matt Nichols (drums), Lee Malia (guitar), and Matt Kean (bass) – released a new, seventh, album called “POST HUMAN: NeX GEn” by Sony Music Entertainment. It’s the last album that features Jordan Fish, band’s keyboardist.
Bring Me The Horizon evolved so much through the years of its existence, shifting from one music genre to another. Ever since I discovered them I can’t stop listening to their music. I personally love tracks that have deeper meaning. Even though the lyrics are sad they make listeners feel understood with their problems and struggles and that’s the real beauty and power of music.
The band and their creations are rich lyrically and instrumentally which makes their songs attractive to artists and spreads the creativity. I love to play my favorite track from the album “n/A” on my electric guitar.
The fun aspect of the band is that they built the entire storyline behind their creations which make the listeners more interested and involved in their art when they are solving the band's puzzles.
For me, the album helped me get through this year and I can’t wait to finally see them live for the first time. I hope it will happen soon.

Another solid year of music is in the books. I felt like tours were way more prominent this year than in previous years. We still got such a solid layout of albums. Fun fact, I saw almost all of my top 5 in concert this year, some of them for the first time. I had a TIME between my top two, a battle between a comeback and an extension or a deluxe edition. Even at the time of writing this up I was still conflicted but alas in the end, there was a clear winner for me. Clancy is what I would call twenty one pilots’s return to form album, with melodies that sound like they were written to be on 2015’s Blurryface and heavy beats that could have felt complete on 2018’s Trench. Following up 2021’s Scaled And Icy, twenty one pilots dropped Clancy on March 2nd, 2024.
Overcompensate was released after teaser media was dropped on the duo’s Youtube page in the form of a true introduction to the lore that Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun have been building since 2015. I felt much of the fan base rise out of coffins like hungry vampires after not getting new lore for 3 years, as well as getting confirmation to a lot of lore that was thought to just be fan theory at that point. But I know as soon as I heard the chord progression in the lore video I dusted off my old theory blog and walked with a bit more pep in my step awaiting their first single. Overcompensate was, I would say, the PERFECT first song to feed hungry fans especially with the line drop of ‘welcome back to trench’ in the first 20 seconds. Unfortunately, this is just my short blurb for my album of the year and NOT a long form discussion of the TOP lore but I would encourage looking deeper into this lore or watching the quick bite of the lore Tyler handed to us.
Again, this is not a long form discussion so I’ll quickly go into my favorite song off the album, Routines In The Night (everyone say thank you Josh Dun). A simply beautifully layered song that I find new meaning in every time I give it a spin and I would recommend to any new TOP listener. They released a music video for each song on the album that puts a different spin on visuals than previous album cycles that I would absolutely recommend checking out.

2024 was a great year for bands to put out albums sounding like they should have released 15+ years ago. From Foreign Hands’ What’s Left Unsaid to Mutilation Barbecue’s Amalgamations of Gore, revivals stretched across all manners of heavy bands. Crucifiction put out Will to Power, and I had to make sure it wasn’t actually Thy Art Is Murder time traveling from a different timeline and putting out their first full length, following up their 2008 EP Infinite Death. This album sounds like the followup to that classic deathcore release, with frontman/multi-instrumentalist Salem Vex (also the creative force behind underappreciated band Bloodbather) sounding a lot like original vocalist Brendan van Ryn. Riding the wave of throwback deathcore along with bands like Psycho-Frame, Crucifiction put out an absolute barn(church?) burner of an album chock full of moments that made me have to immediately rewind over and over again to re-experience them. The closing breakdown of VHS featuring Spite’s Darius Tehrani is one of the most absurdly heavy things I have heard in a long time. I cannot wait to see what the future holds for this band.
