On 12th December Dead Poet Society released a new version of their song “HURT” featuring The Warning. On this day I am going to listen to this track and review it.
Dead Poet Society are Jack Underkofler (vocals and guitar), Jack Collins (guitar), Will Goodroad (drums), and Dylan Brenner (bass). They describe their music as rock. The band was formed in Boston, Massachusetts.
The Warning is a rock band from Monterrey, Mexico, formed by three sisters – Daniela Villarreal Valez (guitar and vocals), Paulina Villarreal Velez (drums and vocals), and Alejandra Villarreal Velez (bass and vocals). The band exists since 2013. They released four studio albums and two EPs.

The new version of the track is the same instrumentally and lyrically. “HURT” is not only an energetic song, it also has very realistic lyrics. It’s open to interpretation, but for me, the song is about a relationship with ourselves. It shows us that we can be our biggest enemy when it comes to our health, both physical and mental. “HURT” also shows us the side no one really talks about – the doubting if we really want to be ‘okay’. “Why the hell would you hurt yourself for this?” can mean those, for first sight, ‘little’ inconveniences that make us overthink and hurt ourselves.
I really love the meaning the song gives us. I also fell in love with the power “HURT” has. I hope that we will hear more from them in the future!
