Amon Amarth Release “Put Your Back Into The Oar”

Not much has been heard from the Viking lords of metal Amon Amarth in the last couple of years, but like any barbarian invasion, they hit when you least expected it. The new standalone single, "Put Your Back into The Oar made its debut on SiriusXM's Liquid Metal and it shows that the band has not lost any of its power in the last two years. This standalone single was put out in honor of the fan tradition of the “epic Viking row” performed at Amon Amarth live shows. The performance created by the band’s devoted fans involves sitting on the ground in a line-up and mimicking the rowing motion of oarsmen on a Viking ship.

"We've been quiet over the last two years, but we've been at home in Sweden hard at work behind the scenes. Much has been said about fans coming to our shows to have fun and doing the "epic Viking row". Well, we thought it was a good idea to write a song about it! This one is for you, the fans, wherever you are - and may Odin guide you as you row to your destiny in uncharted seas! Enjoy the song and video while we continue to work on a new album. We can't wait to see all you heathens soon,” said Amon Amarth in an official statement.

“Put Your Back into the Oar” was recorded at Fascination Street Studios in Sweden by producer Jens Bogren. The single was released by the band's own indie label Victorious Music. It is available on various streaming platforms to play or download.

The official video is appropriately cinematic to capture the epic quality of Amon Amarth. The video depicts a young female archaeologist who discovers a broken skull. In her dreams, she becomes a shieldmaiden on a voyage with Amon Amarth in full Viking regalia. What follows are intense fight scenes and grand special effects featuring a raging storm. Production for the video “Put Your Back into the Oar” was done by Twin V, the hard rock consulting agency. Ryan MackFall directed the video at Crashburn Media

Amon Amarth is also releasing new merchandise in conjunction with the single. The items include limited edition picture discs and clothing from the band’s own Victorious Merch store and EMP, the German-based music mail-order company.

“Put your Back into the Oar” is the first new song heard from  Amon Amarth since their 2019 release Berserker. The resulting tour for Berserker featured Arch Enemy, At The Gates, and Grand Magus and saw sellout crowds in multiple venues. Amon Amarth plans to follow Berserker with a new album for a summer 2022 release.
