Following their 2019 acoustic project, Annie’s Takeout is preparing to release their first studio EP, titled Twister EP. While the release date hasn’t been confirmed yet, this is definitely a project that you’re going to want to keep your eye out for. The first single “Rooms Tinted T.V. Blue” was released on June 11th, and the second single “Oh, Wow” was just released on July 24th.

There are 6 total songs on the tracklist and kicks off with the second single “Oh, Wow”. This is really the way to start off a record: heavy-hitting, clean instrumentals accompanied by sharp, layered vocals. I can see why this one was chosen to be a single, and why it’s the opener. I’m counting down the days until live shows are fully back and this track can be accompanied by the giant mosh pit it deserves.

The first few times I listened through this project, I was dead set on “October in the Midwest Earth” being my favorite track. The sound feels surprisingly nostalgic, and I feel like it could’ve easily nestled between a blink-182 track and a Jimmy Eat World track on one of my old 8tracks playlists. Although I definitely have a soft spot for track 2, I think that the closing track, “Editing Team”. There is so much going on in that song, and I love every chaotic second of it.

If there’s one thing that this EP shows about Annie’s Takeout, it’s that they aren’t limited to one sound. A lot of the songs have various sections in them that differ quite a bit, and each track has a very unique sound to it. Somehow, though, they all work together cohesively. They’ve found the sweet spot between making music that is produced very well and making music that’s raw. No genuineness is sacrificed in the name of making a clean-sounding track, and that balance is what makes Annie’s Takeout a group to watch.
