BLAX Release Single “Our Brain Conditions”

Since its roots in the early 90s, Italy has had a vibrant gothic metal scene. Italian Gothic Metal is a subgenre of Gothic Metal that originated in Italy in the early 1990s. With dark lyrics (often in English) melancholic melodies, and distorted guitars bands like Lacuna Coil, The Foreshadowing, Macbeth, Domina Noctis, and Mandragora Scream have achieved success internationally. BLAX seeks to be the next wave of Italian gothic metal.

BLAX the band is fronted by singer and songwriter Giampaolo Polidoro who took on the name Blax for the project. Polidoro’s collaborator on BLAX’s 2021 demo tape recorded in Ravel 5 Studio in Latina was Marco Fanella who adopted the name Hektor. The following year saw BLAX welcome three additional members who likewise took on new personas. Emil Dellantonio was dubbed Hexen, Giulia Balestrieri was now known as Katla, and Massimiliano Bergo became Argex. With their new stage names, the quintet went to work on producing new music.

In 2022, BLAX signed a contract with AlphaOmega and quickly went into the studio. The full-length debut album Meravilia was released last October and contains 10 songs.

The first single off Meravilia is the track “Our Brain Conditions” which is a raging hard rock song. The band’s sound is sure to have crossover appeal as “Our Brain Conditions” will surely be on rotation on any metal/hard rock online radio channels due to its catchy beat and heavy sound. Complimenting the single is the creepy music video for “Our Brain Conditions” directed by Alessandro Campagna. Set in a possibly haunted house, the video features the burlesque dancer Imi Silly Noir dressed in white and playing with puppets while cracking a devilish grin.

The other tracks on Meravilia range in style. In terms of heaviness, BLAX alternates from hard rock (Shady Life, My White Window) to heavy metal (Poker’s Room, Eva) with 80s influences. BLAX shifts gears with the songs “Rules of Meravilia” and “You” which are dark folk music. The gothic rock influences are clear in the songs “Raining Words” and “Queen of My Heroine.” This range is great for a new band seeking to make a mark on the diverse hard rock scene. Meravilia is a strong debut for BLAX and they will certainly find audiences in the United States and beyond receptive to their vision of dark hard rock.
