At only 23 years old, British artist Cody Frost has already made waves in the alt-pop scene She has received praise from publications such as PAPER magazine. Frost made the ‘Best New Artists To Watch’ list compiled by Pigeons and Planes who also dubbed her song “HIGH/BYE” as “the one that got us hooked” and a “jolt of electricity.” She has extensive radio support in her native UK with Radio 1, BBC Introducing and Amazing Radio. As for streaming services, her music has appeared on Apple Music and Spotify.

This is incredibly impressive considering it was not long ago that Cody Frost was busking in the city of Manchester. She reached more people by posting on YouTube covers of hip hop, metal and grunge songs. Learning to deal with her diagnosis of ADHD by focusing on her art, Frost began to find herself as skilled singer and songwriter. Soon she received shout-outs from her idols Enter Shikari, as well other respected performers Tyler OakleySoniqueYoung Guns and Shamir. Despite her growing music career, Frost still maintains a regular schedule as a tattoo artist and continues to sell signed limited edition A4 art prints on website.

Her latest singleSTOMACHACHES,” is produced by Dan Weller from progressive metal band SikTh. The song deals with mental health and its inspiration comes from Frost’s time living on top of a bar.

“I used to live above a pub, and it got broken into a lot,” Frost recalls. “It was a super scary time for me and I felt really unsafe and alone. This song is about living in that dark place and it having such a bad effect on the mental health of not just me, but everyone who lived there. I observed how toxic it felt and wrote from both my perspective and that of one of my housemates. This spawned the bug idea: bugs being a materialized version of my anxiety, and other people’s mental health issues.”

Naomi Kane directs the stunning video for STOMACHACHES.”  Frost displays the anxiety she feels by contouring her body as disturbing drawings flash on the screen. Frost herself drew the images which include a decapitated head inside a microwave and a centipede with a human face. Frost even designed the outfit she wears in the video.

Her debut album, It’s Not Real includes STOMACHACHES,” and “HIGH/BYE”, as well as her earlier singles "(I Should) Take Better Care" and “Verbal Warnings". The mix of pop hooks, electronic music, punk ethos and sensitive lyrics is masterfully head together by Frost’s wonderful voice and her willingness to display her vulnerability.

“I’ve been afraid for what feels like my whole life,”Frost said.“When writing this EP, I wanted to dig into myself and say out loud things that I could never articulate before. I’ve been learning about my ADHD, depression and anxiety and wanted to tell people the things that I kept locked up, purely because I couldn’t find the words before. This EP is about losing that childlike trust that you have in adults, and essentially coming to grips with being one myself.”
