Willow Smith, best known as WILLOW, produced the track “G R O W” with renowned Pop-Punk artists, Avril Lavinge and Travis Barker (producer & drummer of Blink-182), combining sounds to create a powerful, jouncing track. The song can be found in WILLOW’s latest album “lately I feel EVERYTHING” released on July 16th via labels Polydor/MSFTSMusic/Roc Nation. Artists featured are not only Travis and Avril, but Tierra Whack, Cherry Glazerr, and Ayla Tesler-Mabe.

Willow Smith shares her experience on the track “G R O W” in a behind-the-scenes clip in video WILLOW IN CONCERT: Lately I feel EVERYTHING.

“I’m just so excited because me and Avril have never performed live together before, so this is going to be a whole completely different experience. It’s a huge opportunity for me to be really able to do this to the fullest and to really connect with people who can inspire me and teach me. She’s just one of those people and I’m just so grateful that we got to meet. To have Avril and Travis playing together on one song, I just think it’s going to be absolutely spectacular. It’s just going to be pop-punk astronomical royalty and I’m so honoured to be able to watch that happen and be there with them, and be able to perform with them.”

The new album ”lately I feel EVERYTHING” including track mentioned, “G R O W”, strays away from Willow Smith’s initial records, such as debut studio album “ARDIPITHECUS” which was identified as a R&B/Neo Soul album, as well as self-intitled album “WILLOW” that honed a Psychedelic Soul and Dream Pop sound. The latest record embraces a new tone compared to the likes of My Chemical Romance and Paramore; Bold Pop-Punk and Emo nodes, developing an aggressive sound and assertive vocals, as if Willow not only wishes, but WILL deliver her point across to the listeners with raw passion and LOTS of sound.

The start of Willow Smith’s drift to Punk is not her first exposure to the Rock scene, as Willow’s mother, Jada Pinkett Smith, formed the metal band, Wicked Wisdom, back in 2002. They were regarded as a Heavy/Nu Metal group, and the band had even landed a spot in 2005’s OzzFest Festival, a festival created by Sharon Osbourne (Wife of Ozzy Osbourne) hosting a plethora of heavy metal and rock groups over its years.

During a Rolling Stones Interview, Willow reminisces on Wicked Wisdom and the beginning of her own discography as WILLOW.

“That was my first real tour experience, and that was the first music that I was surrounded by as a child. When I first started doing my own music and my parents got me a vocal coach, we only did pop and R&B kind of vibes, and so for my entire life, I didn’t think I had the voice to sing this kind of music or sing rock in general. When COVID hit and quarantine started, I just kind of needed something new — everything was slowing down, and I wanted to try something that I had never tried before.”
