The New Jersey-based technical death metal titans COGNITIVE have officially unveiled their latest music video for “Insidious”. The brutal new track is a part of the band's newly released album Abhorrence which is available now via Metal Blade Records.

Abhorrence is the band at what it does best, and that’s carrying its tradition of fusing devastating riffs with deep, thoughtful lyrics and creating an experience that will make you rage and feel something at the same time. Abhorrence isn’t just a collection of 10 new songs, it’s an auditory journey, taking the listeners on a unique experience through each track.

Our lyrics for this record are all over the place. There’s some stuff about video games and addiction and mental health. To me, that’s the kind of subject matter that hits home because everyone’s got stuff going on in their lives. It’s relatable.”

- Guitarist Rob Wharton

Right off the bat, the song hits you with full force. Jost delivers powerful gutturals on top of slamming riffs from Wharton and Lannon which leads into Lannon slamming a nail in the coffin with a melodic guitar solo. Viana’s thunderous drumming adds an extra layer of brutality that will make your head spin. Despite the song’s brutal heaviness, it’s also a very deep song as the lyrics touch upon the struggles of addiction, a very personal topic and one that many people can relate to.

“A finger-fancy opening soon leads to slam-heavy grooves and well-articulated vocals, with lyrics about addiction, and a chorus/breakdown that always comes back for more.”

Insidious” is the band’s third music video, following the previously released “Abhorrence” and “A Pact Unholy”.

The beginning stages of Abhorrence started when COGNITIVE was touring behind their previous album, Malevolent Thoughts Of A Hastened Extinction, with members sending tracks back and forth while on the road. The album was recorded, tracked and mixed by drummer AJ Viana at his own studio and was mastered by Ryan Williams ( ex The Black Dahlia Murder) at Metal Blade Records.

COGNITIVE’s Abhorrence is available on CD and digital formats as well as vinyl in the following color variants:

Crimson Void (US retail)

Gilded Abyss (EU + US Metal Blade Webstore – Ltd. 400)

I’m a photographer from Long Island, NY. I’ve been going to shows for as long as I can remember and about three years ago, I took up photography as a hobby. Initially, I was only doing street photography and eventually I took my camera to shows and began shooting shows in Brooklyn and Long Island. I’m always looking for ways to improve my work and push beyond what I can do.
