Covet Debut "coronal" Video; North American Tour Underway

Hailing from San Francisco, Covet are a trio who bring a laid-back west coast vibe to the math rock scene. Made up of guitarist and vocalist Yvette Young, bassist Brandon Dove and drummer Jessica Burdeaux. The group received positive feedback for their debut album effloresce released in 2018. Their sophomore album technicolor released in 2020 continued the chill vibes that already became the band’s trademark sound. Now with the release of catharsis, Covet has created a truly enjoyable ride for listeners to take alongside the band’s musical journey.

We did a lot of risk-taking on this album,” said Yvette Young. “I try to follow what excites me without heeding anybody’s expectations. I’m leaning into melodies, tones, and textures and trying to use them to transport listeners. The whole concept is escaping into a fantasy realm where the songs depict different characters and their own worlds. Each song is like their theme song. It’s mostly instrumental, but when you close your eyes, I hope people will be transported into the character’s story. Music has always been escapism for me and a great source of therapy. My hope for this music is that it will take people somewhere and stir their imaginations, or at the very least, make them feel something. I named this record ‘catharsis’ because the word to me feels like a triumphant exodus. No matter the dire circumstances, music is one of those things that I’ve always needed to create to survive (in all senses of the word), and time and time again, I turn to guitar and songwriting as my outlet to uplift and feel like I have control over something in this chaotic universe.
catharsis tracklist:

1.   coronal
2.   firebird
3.   bronco
4.   vanquish
5.   interlude
6.   smolder
7.   merlin
8.   lovespell

Covet has released two videos directed by Tom Flynn to promote catharsis. The video for “firebird” features the band going on a joyride in a sweet red Firebird. The song is a tribute to Young’s mother who went on a similar ride as a newcomer to America. For “lovespell,” the band is awash in a series of bright colors. With beautiful rhythm and exquisite guitar, “lovespell” is a truly creative song that is ethereal, yet powerful.

(lovespell) a tribute to that feeling of being totally smitten by the joy of creating and feeling things deeply.

Scott Evans, his previous credits include producing albums by the bands Thrice and Samiam, produced catharsis. Released via Triple Crown Records, catharsis is available in limited-edition vinyl variants, as well as on CD, and digital platforms. New merchandise promoting catharsis is also available for sale and features artwork by Young. The artwork featured as the album cover and the band’s tour poster is also by Young.

The band’s embrace of art extends to promoting the creative output of their fans. Covet will host a virtual gallery on May 4th showcasing art made by their fans. Those who want to contribute to the gallery can submit art to the band’s official website.

Covet are currently on a North American tour. Opening acts for all dates on the tour are Scarypoolparty and altopalo.
