Placebo: The Photography of Scarlet Page" Opens in NYC; North American Tour Underway

Placebo, the British alternative glam rock band, is back, and not only are they currently on tour, but the group is the subject of a photography exhibition, “Placebo: The Photography of Scarlet Page,” on display at the Morrison Hotel Gallery in New York City.

Founded in 1994 by vocalist–guitarist Brian Molko and bassist–guitarist Stefan Olsdal, Placebo gained attention through their hit song ‘Pure Morning” and their highly stylish gender-bending fashion sense. The group released eight studio albums and sold over 13 million records. Placebo has collaborated with an impressive list of artists including David Bowie, Justin Warfield (She Wants Revenge), Michael Stipe (REM), and Alison Mosshart (The Kills, The Dead Weather). Recently, Placebo has explored social media with the innovative use of filters and self-categorization. Placebo continues to make music and their most recent album, the 2022 release Never Let Me Go is described by the band as a “synthesizer-led soundtrack to the end of the world.”

It is then no surprise that Placebo would attract the attention of award-winning photographer Scarlet Page. The internationally acclaimed photographer has made a career out of documenting rock stars. She has photographed The Smashing Pumpkins, The Beastie Boys, Robbie Williams, The Darkness, David Bowie, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Rolling Stones, Tool, The Verve, and Stereophonics.

I’m very excited to begin this next chapter of my career with Morrison Hotel Gallery—the Gallery’s taste and photographer roster is peerless. I thought the ideal first exhibition with them would be of my work with Placebo; a band that’s very dear to my heart, and whose uncompromising image is perfect for a Morrison Hotel Gallery showing.

The Morrison Hotel Gallery is the most appropriate place for the exhibit as the gallery hosts an archive of photography from 125 of the world’s most renowned photographers who documented popular music scenes. The collection highlights generations of jazz, blues, and rock and roll music history.

The exhibit showcases Scarlet’s 10 years of photographing Placebo. A limited run of co-signed prints featuring signatures by Scarlet Page, Brian Molko, and Stefan Olsdal. The gallery has expanded to include photographs of celebrities and sports as well. “Placebo: The Photography of Scarlet Page,” runs till May 7th, 2023.

Placebo is currently on a 19-city North American tour. The tour kicked off at Mexico City’s Palacio de Los Deportes and will make its way around the United States and Canada ending at a May 20th show at The Filmore in Denver, Colorado.
