Dead Posey Unleash "Russian Roulette"

On Friday, August 6, 2021, the Los Angeles-based rock duo Dead Posey returned with a vengeance with their new track and music video "Russian Roulette" (out via Position Music). Not only that, but fans can also look forward to Dead Posey's debut album arriving in early 2022.

Speaking on the release, the band shares:

"Between the plague shutting down the world, poisonous politics, and the battle with our own demons, this song is the first shot against it all. "Russian Roulette" is the nagging black rabbit hole in your head that can make you go insane and doubt everything you’re doing. It’s our ‘fuck you’ rage that’s been boiling beneath the surface begging to get out.

The track is a shot of pure adrenaline in the form of hyper-fuzzed guitars, a pounding uptempo beat, and Danyell’s trademark snarling and seductive delivery. “The song emulates the nagging black rabbit hole in your head that can make you go insane and doubt everything you’re doing. It’s a ‘fuck you’ to whoever tries to hold you down or get in your way,” says Danyell of the track. Adds Tony, “With no outlet to play music live or even socialize for a long time, a lot of energy and anxiety had built up in us over the past year and a half - this song is a good example of where our hearts and heads have been and are at in 2021.”

Like ghosts from rock ’n’ roll lovers’ past, duo Dead Posey’s aggressively provocative sound lingers between two worlds like Jekyll & Hyde, instantly hypnotizing you. The band broke into the rock scene in 2018 with their self-produced debut EP Freak Show and standout track Don’t Stop The Devil, which now has over 20 million digital spins from their ever-growing ardent fanbase. The band (singer Danyell Souza and guitarist/multi-instrumentalist Tony F) took a darker and more industrial turn with 2020’s mid-pandemic release Malfunction (and its acoustic-version cousin, Malfunction X Broken Down). Feeding a vigorous appetite for performing live, Dead Posey has unfurled their punk-infused high-octane live shows at notable festivals such as Louder Than Life, Aftershock, and Shiprocked, and have unleashed their riveting energy on illustrious stages such as Rock City and Electric Ballroom in the UK, Gramercy Theater in NYC and other iconic venues throughout the US.

Dead Posey’s music has been heard in Fox’s Lucifer, MTV's Teen Wolf, Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger, and Netflix's Jack Whitehall – Travels With My Father among others, as well as in ads for Taco Bell, Sony PlayStation, Riot Games’ League of Legends, Back 4 Blood, and many more. The duo has received positive write-ups from the likes of The Huffington Post and Guitar World Magazine and has collaborated with Hot Topic on their “I Like Scary Movies Experience” feature. They have also appeared on popular podcasts such as The Boo Crew & The Fred Minnick Show.

The potent energy of Dead Posey’s music is sonically conveyed by the tension and duality of the band’s two members. Danyell and Tony’s hands-on, tug of war approach in the studio taps into a chaotic rawness that otherwise wouldn't be attainable without their dynamic.

Danyell says, “We are perfectionists to a fault, and we have to remind each other sometimes to kill our darlings so we don’t go completely insane. I think we encourage each other’s best attributes while also reigning in some impulses that might lead us astray.” Tony then adds: “We do pretty much every last thing ourselves, so we have grown a shorthand in communication on how we make music. There’s a real yin and yang balance thing going on that gives Dead Posey its vibe and makes it what it is.”

Dead Posey’s name has its roots in the plague nursery rhyme “Ring Around the Rosey”. Visually inspired by left-of-center muses such as David Lynch, Salvador Dali, and Edgar Allan Poe, the realm that Dead Posey has created with their music is fitting considering Danyell is the granddaughter of an LAPD Homicide detective who worked on some of the most notorious murder cases.

What The Press Are Saying:

“Dead Posey is a damn power duo… [with] an energetic, industrial-packed EP titled Malfunction, “Parasite” is definitely the standout track. Danyell Souza’s voice soars in the choruses, packing immense grit and power over the thunderous instrumentation behind her.”

- Loudwire (68 Best Songs of 2020)

“The speed of their ascent is testament to the quality of their unique sonic brew. Take some Son House and Mahalia Jackson, throw in a pinch of Exile-era Rolling Stones and blend with a hint of Jim Morrison’s swagger. Top that off with a ferocious blend of grinding guitars, anthemic choruses, unyielding hooks, and the unsettling voodoo vibe of the best Southern folklore, and you’ll get an idea of what the band is about.”

- Guitar World Magazine

"Haunting ... an awe-inspiring brand of desert-pop/swamp rock."

- Huff Post

“[Dead Posey]… create a barren, dystopian soundscape, but mix it with strutting, glam rock choruses, and hooks. There’s nothing here you couldn’t sing along to, certainly not “Parasite”, short, sharp and kind of punk.”
