San Jose, CA-based metal band Dungeon Crawl has released the new single, “+1 Mace.” The track is currently streaming through Decibel magazine. “+1 Mace” is a haunting track with dark fantasy themes and a retro metal sound.

Dungeon Crawl takes inspiration from fantasy role-playing games such as Dungeons and Dragons. If you ever wondered what a band fronted by Eddie Munson from Stranger Things would be like, it may sound like Dungeon Crawl. The unholy alliance of dark fantasy and heavy metal that made parents lose their minds in the 80s is resurrected in the music of Dungeon Crawl.

The Maze Controller is the mysterious frontman and bassist for Dungeon Crawl. He shares composition duties with the Red Wizard Magnus-Scrota who also plays the drums for the band. Guitarists Gage Higgins and Ryan Alvarado round out the band. Together the band explores the dark corners of fantasy worlds filled with goblins, sorcerers, and barbarian warriors.

"‘+1 Mace’ is a triumphant song that'll have listeners banging their heads with catchy riffs and grooves, while simultaneously feeling victorious from the hooks and huge chorus. The lyrical concept is based on an overzealous Paladin who brandishes the titular +1 Mace to vanquish anyone he deems to be a threat, attributing his actions to a divine calling. Get ready to bust out those foam LARP weapons, head to the battlefield, and deal some damage!"

- said The Maze Controller

Musically, Dungeon Crawl is influenced by classic metal bands. The blistering sound of thrash and metal is combined with symphonic metal to create an epic style of music that mirrors the grandeur of the fantasy themes in the lyrics.

“‘+1 Mace’ showcases the band’s various influences from across the heavy metal player’s handbook, from thrash metal, death metal, power metal, and orchestral metal — all converging into an impressive homebrew sound all their own.”

- said Decibel magazine.

“+1 Mace” is off the band’s second full-length album, Maze Controller. Previously, the band released its first single off the album, “Red Shadows.” Dungeon Crawl is set to drop Maze Controller on September 20th via Carbonized Records. Codie Jones and Jason Bursese recorded Maze Controller at Castle Ultimate Studios. Guitar re-amping, mixing, and mastering were managed by Zack Ohren. Fantasy artist James Bousema created the cover artwork. Noted illustrators Carlos Castilho, Brendan Elliot, and Garry Yulianto drew the inner artwork.

For the uninitiated who are curious about Dungeon Crawl's mix of magic and metal, take a chance and roll the 8-sided dice and listen to “+1 Mace” streaming now on Decibel magazine.
