Female-led Power Trio ON Presents 'Break You' Single
Toronto indie rockers ON continue the legacy of 90s alt-rock with their newest release the eponymous named album ON. The latest single off ON is the hard-hitting, guitar-heavy song “Break You.” Vocalist and bassist Lucy Di Santo explain that the true power of “Break You” comes from its empowering message.
The song is heavily reminiscent of 90s-era college radio and grunge bands. This is most appropriate considering that Di Santo along with guitarist Steve Fall was the creative force behind the 90s alternative band Acid Test. The group which experimented with electronic music and funk to craft their unique sound had found a level of success when they toured with such legendary acts as the Sugarcubes, Grace Jones, and Nine Inch Nails. Acid Test would evolve into the band ON with the addition of drummer Dan Cornelius. ON has largely laid dormant since the 90s with Cornelius going on to play with the bands Danko Jones and Deliuss. The release of ON marks the band’s comeback.
ON was written in New York and the band’s native home of Toronto. Pre-production was recorded with Drew Howard at Star Sound Studios in Cape Coral. At Phase One Studio ON worked with noted sound engineer Darius Szczepaniak who previously had worked with Sum 41, Black Crowes, Big Sugar, Bare Naked Ladies, and Jann Arden. The album is released via the Canadian label Indiestructable Records.
ON has already resulted in a couple of infectious singles. The first was for “Blackmail” which was accompanied by a music video directed by Michael Gucciardi. The second single, “Underdog” also had a music video this time directed by Lindi Gordon. With the focus track “Hereafter” ON would chart consecutively on the Radio Indie Alliance charts for the past year.
ON’s comeback is well underway. The band has already toured Ontario to an enthusiastic response. With all the love the band has gotten from fans, ON will start a US tour on Valentine’s Day kicking off a show in San Diego.
