Godsmack Release Sophomore Album, 'Awake,' On Double LP Remastered Vinyl For First Time Ever
For the first time, Godsmack will release their 2001 album Awake on 2LP remastered vinyl. Awake is the sophomore album that produced the Godsmack classics “Vampires,” “Greed,” Bad Magick,” and “Awake.” The title track was Godsmack’s first Billboard #1 hit. The spoken word track “Vampires” was nominated for a Grammy for "Best Rock Instrumental," the first nomination that Godsmack had ever received from the Recording Academy.
Awake followed the multi-platinum 1998 debut album, Godsmack. The band converted a warehouse into a makeshift studio to record Awake. The result was a much grittier sound in the album’s production. Some of the songs had been rejected from the first album and given a second life on Awake. Fans took kindly to Godsmack’s new tougher sound and Awake debuted at #5 on the Billboard 200. Godsmack would go on to sell a staggering 256,000 copies in its first week. Overall, 2,000,000 copies of Awake would sell nationwide.
The success of Awake would help carry Godsmack to greater heights. The Massachusetts-based band grew an international fanbase and was declared Billboard Music Award’s Rock Artist of the Year in 2001. The band set a record for the most mainstream rock radio hits since February 1999, an impressive 20 Top 10 singles. Godsmack has also had 12 singles to reach the #1 spot. After receiving their first Grammy nomination with Awake, Godsmack would earn three more nominations over the years since. Their most recent album was the 2018 release Lightening Up the Sky. Over a span of two decades and eight studio albums, Godsmack sold over 20 million records worldwide. Today Godsmack is still going strong and are currently touring North America on the Vibez tour.`
Awake is now available for pre-order. A special limited-edition green color vinyl with a special etched side is online only and can be bought on UMusic.com and the Godsmack.com store. Both the black and green Awake vinyl will drop on May 17, 2024.
