Grayscale Release New Single “Babylon (Say It To My Face)”

Philadelphia pop-punk band Grayscale recently released “Babylon (Say It To My Face), the second single off their upcoming third studio album. The single was released on August 4th, and the full album will be released later this month. The band’s last studio album was released in 2019, so their upcoming album Umbra is highly anticipated.

“Babylon (Say It To My Face)” follows the first single “Dirty Bombs”, which was released in late July. Both singles are sonically similar, but “Babylon” feels more pop-influenced than “Dirty Bombs”. While the first single could easily have been on the band’s previous album, I think “Babylon” shows off a bit of a new direction for Grayscale. It’s not too different, but the lyrics and structure give it more of a pop feel. But, it’s still Grayscale: the pop-punk sound remains.

This song is just as catchy as previous Grayscale releases, if not more so. The chorus is pretty simple, and easily gets stuck in your head. Between this and the first single, it’ll be interesting to see what the rest of the album has in store and to see where the band goes in terms of their sound. While I enjoy the more pop-influenced sound of “Babylon”, I love the classic pop-punk sound a bit more. Either way, they’ve shown that they’re capable of both styles, so I’m looking forward to this album nonetheless.
