Ipecac Recordings Resurrects Geek Show Tour
California-based independent music label Ipecac Recordings is bringing back its famed Geek Show. In the past, the Geek Show tour highlighted the diverse group of artists that have been associated with Ipecac Recordings. This year’s Geek Show will include Mr. Bungle, The Melvins, and Spotlights. The tour will take them through several cities in the Western United States.
Geek Show 2023 will start on May 11 in Los Angeles, CA at the famed Hollywood Palladium. On May 13th the Geek Show merges with the Sick New World Festival in Las Vegas, NV. This will be the only show that Spotlights will not be performing. The remaining dates on the Geek Show tour will include Mission Ballroom in Denver, CO (May 16), Union Event Center in Salt Lake City, UT (May 17), Showbox in Seattle, WA (May 19), Crystal Ballroom in Portland, OR (May 21), and Fox Theater in Oakland, CA (May 21).
Mr. Bungle will headline Geek Show 2023. This is exciting news for the cult following of fans that the band has attracted over the years. The last album from Mr. Bungle was 2020’s The Raging Wrath of the Easter Bunny Demo which presented songs recorded from the band’s 1986 cassette-only demo. That same year saw Mr. Bungle perform seven shows in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New York. Mr. Bungle fans have since had to wait three years for another tour. For many of the cities on the Geek Show 2023, this will be the first time in 22 years that Mr. Bungle has performed a show. This current band line-up sees longtime members Mike Patton, Trevor Dunn, and Trey Spruance joined by Scott Ian (Anthrax, S.O.D., The Damned Things) and Dave Lombardo (Slayer, Suicidal Tendencies, Dead Cross).
Seattle legends The Melvins will be celebrating their 40th anniversary in 2023. Throughout their career, The Melvins have released numerous albums on Ipecac Recordings. The last recordings for the label were the albums Working with God and Five Legged Dog, both released in 2021.
Spotlights have existed as a band for less time than their tourmates but have achieved a positive reputation from fans and critics due to their live performances and record output. On Ipecac Recordings, the band has released the albums Seismic (2019), Hanging by Faith EP (2018), Kiss The Ring (featuring Allen Epley of The Life and Times) (2018), and Love and Decay (2019). Later this year Spotlights will release a new album on Ipecac Recordings.
