Music of Curiosities Coney Island Presents "QVEEN OF ATLANTIS MUSIC FESTIVAL"
On Saturday, June 25th, I had the pleasure of attending Music of Curiosities Coney Island Presents "QVEEN OF ATLANTIS MUSIC FESTIVAL" in Coney Island, Brooklyn, NY at this amazing place known as Freak Bar. The venue of choice is a staple for the neighborhood and is famously known for its very own Circus Sideshow By The Seashore. For this special event, some very dear and close friends of mine both hosted and starred in the show.
Hosted by some dear friends and lovely humans, I had no expectations yet was completely blown away by every single performance of the night. First up was this beautiful soul TRYST brought elements of metal, burlesque, goth, macabre, dark desires, and so much more during their set. Despite having such a small stage, they were able to captivate the audience and even brought us some laughs during their set with some role play.
Between sets, the lovely PNK VLVT WTCH graced the stage in two costumes to host the show and even performed some songs for everyone leaving us singing along. This amazing human being isn’t afraid to be trans and is making sure through song that they express it for others to not be afraid to be their true selves.
Up next was the metal band Afterus did a set that was nearly all acoustic due to the size of the stage while also gracing us with some performances by none other than the Sideshow’s very own, Obsidian Absurd. Not only did we get to hear some metal music, but Obsidian's first appearance as The Siren was not only beautiful to watch but resonated the music to a higher level while dancing and some swordplay she uses in her act for the Sideshow. Later she returns to the stage to do another act of hers which is walking on glass and even a pomegranate ritual. I had previously written a review of Afterus performing a show earlier this year which you can see here.
The night ended with a stellar performance by The Destruct Principle while they burned sage and got everyone to enjoy the rest of the show dancing in a trance.
I am wholeheartedly so proud to call the performers my friends and I’m so thankful to have been able to be there to capture the moments to live on forever. If you ever find yourself in Brooklyn, NY, make sure to head on down to Coney Island and make sure to stop in Freak Bar to check out the Circus Sideshow By The Seashore during the summer months to see the amazing cast which includes both PNK VLVT WTCH, Obsidian Absurd, and so many other talented freaks I call friends. The venue also hosts many other shows like this one such as Drag, Burlesque, and so much more. This event was the perfect start to the Pride Parade that took over NYC the following day. Let your freak flags fly babies, you were born this way.
