Octoploid, the project founded by bassist Olli-Pekka "Oppu" Laine, has released a lyric video for the song “Coast Of The Drowned Sailors.” The track is from the band’s debut album, Beyond The Aeons

Combining influences from extreme metal and psychedelia, Octoploid has crafted a song that is an unusually cohesive mix of death metal, black metal, prog rock, and classic hard rock.

Laine says,

"'Coast Of The Drowned Sailors' is a conscious nod to the ‘90s, and the only possible interpreter for it was Mr. Tomi Koivusaari. The track marries the essence of original melodic death metal with elements of slide and acoustic guitar characteristic of southern rock ballads. Also featured is Jani "Joãnitor" Muurinen, the legendary vocalist from the band Xysma, who delivers the more hopeful part of the lyrics. Overall, '...Sailors' is an unapologetically old-school melodic death metal track executed with a modern touch!"

"Oppu" Laine played previously with the bands Amorphis, Barren Earth, and Mannhai. He founded Octoploid in 2022. Laine brought in drummer Mikko Pietinen, with whom he worked with in the Mannhai. Another band member that Laine had experienced playing is keyboardist Kim Rantala who was once a part of Amorphis. The acid rock flourishes of Octoploid are thanks to guitarist Peter Salonen, primarily known for his work in The Kinky Things, a Finish psychedelic rock band.

Beyond the Aeons tracklisting:

01. The Dawns In Nothingness

02. Coast Of The Drowned Sailors

03. Human Amoral

04. Shattered Wings

05. Beyond The Aeons

06. The Hallowed Flame

07. Concealed Serenity

08. A Dusk Of Vex

On “Coast Of The Drowned Sailors” Laine recruited the talents of two other former bandmates “Coast Of The Drowned Sailors” features Amorphis guitarist Tomi Koivusaari. Xysma vocalist Jani "Joãnitor" Muurinen, who had previously played with Laine in Mannhai, contributed cleaner vocals to the track to counter the aggressive growl of Koivusaari.

“Coast Of The Drowned Sailors” is the sixth video Octoploid has released this year. The previous videos are for “Human Amoral [feat. Tomi Joutsen],” “The Dawns In Nothingness [feat. Mikko Kotamäki],” “The Hallowed Flame [feat. Mikko Kotamäki],” “A Dusk Of Vex [Feat. Jón Aldará],” and “Monotony.”

Octoploid will go on a tour of their native Finland in spring of 2025. Afterward, Octoploid will play the summer festival circuit. For live performances, Octoploid will feature Tomi Joutsen of Amorphis on vocals.

Beyond The Aeons is out now via Reigning Phoenix Music (RPM). The album is available on streaming services, digipak CD, and an eco-friendly/recycled “Dusk Of Vex” Marbled vinyl.
