Dan Lilker is one of the more talented musicians in heavy metal. Known primarily as a bassist, Lilker is also a skilled guitarist, drummer, pianist, vocalist, and producer. A legend in the hardcore and metal scenes, Lilker went on to make a name for himself playing for bands across various subgenres of extreme metal including thrash metal, grindcore, black metal, and death metal. Lilker was a pivotal member of a number of the hardest and most respected bands including Anthrax, Nuclear Assault, S.O.D., Brutal Truth, Exit-13, Blurring, Hemlock, The Ravenous, and Venomous Concept.
Sharing their thoughts on Lilker’s influence and legacy are thirty of his closest bandmates, friends, family and label staff. Some of the interviewees in the book include Scott Ian (Anthrax), Shane Embury (Napalm Death), Ross Dolan (Immolation), Fenriz (Darkthrone), Jacob Bannon (Converge), Gene Hoglan (Death, Testament, Dark Angel), Dave Witte (Municipal Waste, Discordance Axis, Burnt By The Sun) and many more. Perpetual Conversion is richly illustrated with photos and reprints vintage interviews, reviews and rarely seen correspondence.
The second edition of Perpetual Conversion includes added material not found in the earlier printing. Tomas Lindberg (At The Gates) contributes a brand-new forward. A full color section of unpublished photos, concert fliers, and other rare items is included. The format of the book is described by author Dave Hofer as, “a zine-format biography dedicated to Lilker’s ongoing, influential career.” Out of print for more than five years, this expanded second edition of Perpetual Conversion is a must-read for fans of Lilker and the many bands he has contributed to.
