Pierce the Veil: The Jaws of Life
It’s been six years since Pierce the Veil has released new material, the hiatus proved a hard road for the band but The Jaws of Life is one beautiful payoff.
Pierce the Veil began in 2006 with the release of A Flair for the Dramatic and they began to tour with big names in the scene such as Bring Me the Horizon, The Devil Wears Prada and Sleeping With Sirens. 12 years later lead singer and guitarist, Victor Fuentes, bassist, Jaime Preciado and lead guitarist, Tony Perry stands to be one of the biggest alternative bands on the charts.
In 2012, I stood in the art hallway of my high school with my friends all around my phone as we watched the music video for King for a Day premiered. The excitement I felt then can also describe when on August 30th, 2022, Pierce the Veil had announced they were back. Pass The Nirvana was the first single released and boy, oh boy did it not disappoint. This fast paced head-banger delivered not only on Vic Fuentues’s intricate writing style but also the signature guitar lines the band is known for.
Death Of An Executioner is the starter track and was a complete shock on how this song wasn’t made a single, “I like the title ‘Death of an Executioner’ because it describes killing the person who’s trying to kill you.” says Vic in an interview with Apple Music. The song takes you to different places visually and gives a feeling of being fed up with being constantly scrutinized, trying to outrun the people who are trying to catch up.
So Far So Fake is definitely my personal favorite off the record, it keeps up almost the same tone from start to finish while telling the tale of coming to terms with having to cut someone out of your life for the last time. ‘I’m cauterizing the veins you lacerate, In the end, you took it all away from me’ an incredibly real song that really delves into how heartbreaking it is to cut away from someone who has betrayed you.
Pierce the Veil has recently announced shows for Mexico, South America and dates for a summer venture in Australia.
