Pure Imagination Fest Brought Wonder to the Prescott Skyline

Kicking off during sun set on May 17th, Pure Imagination Fest had people of all ages grinning and grooving. The fests 3rd year included a star studded lineup and a crowd that came from all over the state. On my personal trek to the fest, I met a lovely couple who traveled all the way from the upper Washington area just to see their favorite artist. I also met a bunch of locals who took a long weekend getaway from work of course but the music brought people in from a few miles away to a few hundred miles away.

Ponderosa Grove had their electric line up out in full force, the crowd was entranced and grooving their whole set. The band played their well known hits as well as a new single, the live debut of ‘A Bird Can’t Fly’.

Grammy award winning band, Ozomatli, took over the stage next. The fusion band brought the hype and the crowd started gathering a little closer to the stage, not only did Ozomatli totally dominate the stage but they marched their way into the crowd during their last song and got the whole fest vibing and singing along.

Rounding out the night Michael Franti took to the stage under the shine of the moon. The crowd was in awe with his stage presence more in awe when Franti walked in the crowd during his kick off song, smiles lit up the crowd and the energy was electric. Franti’s message before the start of his set was that no matter who we are or where we are in life, we are all connected in one way or another and music is a universal language.

My love for concert photography came from my scrolling on tumblr in my high school years, growing more after attending Warped Tour in 2012. Earning my associates degree in the arts from Cochise College in 2017, I started hunting for my next goal. I began my photojournalism journey in 2019 after working for my local newspaper taking shots of anyone and anything. I have a background of short documentaries, video interviewing and editorial shots. My friends tell me I have a plethora of band/music knowledge that I now hope to put to good use.
